I popped into the the new drum, I had a pint of Harvey's and to my surprise they had a jug to serve it in, I must say it was a great pint , the atmosphere was good , had three screens to show sports, great garden , the bar staff was a young lady, she was very welcoming I believe her name was Leanne, nothing was so much trouble, I would recommend this pub t/p

Friendly back street local, I stayed on the Harvey's which was fine. Three screens for sport.

As very much a non regular we popped in and found staff and regulars very friendly. A reasonable pint of Harvey's. I hadn't been in since it was Uncle Tom's Cabin but glad that it was doing robust trade.

Locals back street boozer. Decent pint of Harvey's available. Not sure you'd want to stay too long in you're not a regular.
Pub itself is reasonably large, although with it being just one long room, you do seem to get in the way of the screen on the far wall whenever you move.
Bar staff nice enough. But the general atmosphere is not altogether comfortable.

From a distance, looks like yet another house along a residential street. On closer inspection, you can see the main pub sign and the old red Courage illuminated sign. Quite a traditional back-street boozer, with an emphasis on the Sky and Setanta sports screens, but serving a nice pint of Harveys.

A friendly boozer and on a residental street away from the centre. Perfect for a quick drink from the crowds following the tour de france.
There was the grand prix on all 3 big screen and a couple of real ales on tap and served in a jug. Service was friendly and prompt.

brilliant pub, great beer. wish it was my local

A backstreet local with a modern twist. Fairly trendy decor, pastel painted walls and fluorescent wall lights plus large screen televisions, but it works. Guv'nor is clearly a Millwall fan judging from a few old team photographs mounted hight on the wall at one end of the bar; could maybe do with a few more pictures as the walls look a bit bare. On the whole a nice smart pub, beer was excellent (Harvey's Best) and atmosphere friendly.

It's a bit like sitting in someone's lounge. Very personal, very civilized. Nothing wrong with that unless you want to hold a private conversation.

Great little back street pub of the type not often found anymore, ideal for anyone sick of'McPubs', the glorified canteens which all look the same, sound the same and where the staff all use the same lines which are written on the cue cards behind the till, because they are not paid enough to use up valuable independent thought - "Would you like to order food with that sir? Do you have your table number Sir? Blah Blah Blah Sir..............."
Not so in The Drum, a family run pub where Tony, his wife Pauline & son Matt know the art of making people feel welcome by always having the time for a chat with the regulars (especially Pauline!).
The beer is fine, and probably among the cheapest available in the town (excluding the plastic McPubs). Matt has a fine range of home prepared rolls which are very reasonably priced at 1 a go.
The regulars are a mixed bunch, ranging from surly downtrodden office workers & hairy arsed builders to stockbrokers and medical professionals - all are generally affable, genial types who will talk to anyone who buys them a drink or two..........
It's also a top pub for sports, with 2 large plasma screens, a smaller screen at one end of the bar and, for big events in good weather, even a large screen set up in a marquee in the garden! Be aware that the pub has a great reputation locally as a good venue for watching sports, you will need to arrive early to get the best seats!
The pub holds a quiz every Sunday at 8:30pm, hosted by Bill Johnson, 1 to enter, all welcome, winner takes all. It also has all the traditional pub stuff, such as the Tote and Bus Stop etc.
Matt runs a flourishing golf society, playing many of the best local courses throughout the season, which always leads to some banter and bitching about handicaps at the Trophy Awards in the evening.
In summary, it's a good little boozer for a few beers in the evening. If you have never tried it, pop in and give it a go, you can buy me a lager!

Sorry they don't do the meat raffle anymore...
|
superb boozer, very friendly management, locals seem friendly although they can be very serious on quiz night(sunday from 7:30) where else could you see the only gay in the village serving drinks, lol
|
This a cute little tradiotional English pub, the drinks are reasonably priced and the pickled eggs are home pickled - its a very 'locals' pub though but don't get put off buy the suspisious stares from them if you aren't one of them as it is worth going to for a quiet one!
|
My local and I love it cos I don't have to stagger too far home. Their new year's eve bash was great! They have a quiz on Sunday nights, a meat raffle and various other raffles/bus stops et al for a quid.

quality little boozer.2 old terraced houses knocked into 1 great little pub.Beer is well kept & the staff are very friendly.Pretty much a local crowd, especially busy when sports on...big footy games etc etc. There are 2 big screens & a smaller Tv at the back of the pub.Nice little beer garden for the summer months, looking at the neighbours laundry!! Known by some regulars as the 'Drumnasium'...they go up there for a 'workout'..!
