We wanted to watch the football (Euro2012) and as this was the nearest real ale pub to our hotel we gave it a try. Packed solid as you might expect but plenty of TV screens and the landlord let my wife and I sit with him and his French friend so we were OK. Lots of comings and going so it was all a bit fenetic but the staff were great and really quick and friendly and I had a couple of pints of Liberation Ale; one Brain's beer(rev/James)but the Black Sheep had just finished and the next one on was Greene King IPA so we moved on after the footie but we enjoyed the place. I returned another time when it was much quieter and it was fine - St.Austell Tribute was on and again the staff (mostly female) were efficent and polite and quick. I was told that the food was good but we were eating at the hotel that night so didn't try it. It is a busy boistrous pub right on the harbour front but perhaps when Euro2012 is over it will revert to a more passive beer emporium!!

The food at the pub was brilliant both for presentation and taste and the chef was very busy but in control . All the staff were really friendly. It gets lively when the football's on, but so does every other pub where ever you go. Would highly recommend for value for money food. Try the specials board!

I have not had the pleasure of meeting the landlord, but found the bar staff adequate.
The pub is worth a visit for a quick drink and a view of the harbour. Real ales on offer at the time of my visit were: Greene King's Ruddles, Hall & Woodhouse's Tanglefoot, and Wells and Young's Bombardier; i.e. beers that one would not generally cross the road for in the UK. I cannot speak for ale quality, as I found the prospect of a gin and tonic less uninviting.

not great, full of rowdy people throwing stuff around, staff all really young and out of their depth, one to avoid

All I can do is echo the comments from 'oldbucksboys'. I found the landlord a disgraceful individual who seems to think of himself as a god-like figure who in reality is probably a very lonely individual really. If you would like to be treated like dirt, come to the ship and crown. If you want to spark out a clown, come to the ship and crown.

This pub would be OK if it wasn't for the disgracefully rude landlord. If you put a lot of money behind the bar, all you will receive in return is a tirade of xenaphobic abuse. Basically, if you aren't from Guernsey, you aren't welcome. Avoid this pub at all costs if you wish to retian any self-respect.

r there no photos of the inside of the pub? havent been there in a very long time it was the best pub when glenn pontin run it

A very popular pub even on late Sunday evening and as a result can get very noisy. It has a good range of real ales which changed several times during our week there. The seating is comfortable and there is the usual plethora of tvs around the lounge. The music can also be rather loud. I must be getting old! The food was OK but my ploughmans was more like a full blown salad.

This was the only pub in which I managed to find real cider in Guernsey. It served Weston's 1st Quality, in addition to three real ales - Greene King IPA & Abbot Ale and Randall's Patois. The interior was busy and I didn't find it an entirely comfortable drinking experience. The pictures of crashed boats on the walls are intriguing!

I RECENTLY WENT TO THE PORT FROM SOUTHAMPTON ON A MINI CRUISE WITH THE NORMANDY JADE CRUISE SHIP'
WHY MY WIFE WAS SHOPPING I POPPED IN THE SHIP AND CROWN FOR A PINT. I WAS THE ONLY PERSON IN THERE AND EVEN THE BARMAID WAS OUTSIDE SMOKING. SHE CAME IN TO SERVE ME AND WAS VERY POLITE.
THE OWNER WAS ON HIS COMPUTER VERY LOUD TALKING AND ANNOYING. I TOOK A STALL ABOUT 4 FT AWAY AND SAT AT THE BAR AND STARTED TO SIP MY BEER. THE SO CALLED LANDLORD CAME OVER AND ASKED ME TO REPLACE THE STALL BACK TO ITS ORIGINAL POSITION.
I THOUGHT WAT A XXXXANKER
HE SAID HE DIDNT WANT IT LOOKING LIKE A PUBLIC BAR.
A VERY ANNOYING PERSON AND A SERIOUSLY BIG EGO
ANYONE THINKING OF USING THIS ESABLISHMENT DONT .
I LEFT MOST OF THE PINT ON THE BAR AND LEFT

Beer good, but after office clientelle hog the bar. Disappointed with the decor, expected it to be more traditional. Tried the "catch of the day" and was caught - tiny piece of battered fish with not much taste.

This is most definitely the best pub on the whole Island. The atmosphere on Friday and Saturday nights is second to none, this along with the fact it never takes more than 2 minutes to get served, means that everyone who's anyone has at least one drink in the Ship on a night out. As for the rest of the week - good food, plenty of TVs, all football matches live and a wicked location.

Much better now with the new decor as your feet dont stick to the carpet anymore. Also with the smoking ban now upon us there are more females coming into the ship than before - some to rival even the collection of fine looking things Pontin employs behind the bar. For non-Guerns go to the ship on Wed, Fri and Sat evenings - no other boozer in Guernsey can match the ship for atmosphere whn it hits the spot - usually 10 pm onwards when the jukebox gets cranked up. If all that fails then at least you can laugh at Marks comedy spectacles or dart-player style shirts.

Used to be one of the nicest pubs in the heart of town untill it was painted to look like a trandy wine bar with fancy chrome lager taps. Still has a selection of ales. The owner recently organised the Guernsey beer festival and can usually be found drinking in the Cock and Bull(?).

For the CAMRA pub of the year on Guernsey, this place is a bit of a disappointment. It's ok, but it has none of the old world charm you might expect. Had some decent Old Speckled Hen there, but the choice of beer isn't that expansive.

This pub serves real ale and has several pumps. It often shows sports events on several TVs, but none large screen. The size and location mean there is no parking fascility. Food of an unknown quality is served. Its size makes it a bit of a tight squeeze, especially if there's a popular football match on.
