Went on Friday night to a birthday party. Apart from us there were only about 10 other people in the there. The music was good and as it was so empty got served immediately. Decent cocktails. Would probably not return unless another "do" arranged there, not much atmosphere.

i've had to suffer many a leaving do organised in here, slow service, overpriced, cramped upstairs. decor is 'trendy', over designed and trying too hard. the immediate area is a bit of a desert for pubs but i'd go to the goldsmiths if i had a choice.

It's a trendy bar - obviously some people like it as it was pretty full when I visited it - but not really to my taste. I'd recommend a short walk to the Lord Clyde instead.

October 2004. Don't know what the old pub was like but the new winebar upstairs and loungebar downstairs are both really nice. Friendly staff, excellent DJ's on a Friday and sometimes a Saturday night - good mix of people and buzzy laidback atmsophere. Well worth trying out.

Used to be "The William Shakespeare", now completely refurbished and renamed to "The Southwark Rooms", a bar/restaurant. If you're looking for an old fashioned boozer, try the Rose and Crown a very short walk away (also listed on this site) or one of the other traditional Southwark establishments.
