Despite no recent reviews this is still an excellent pub with an extensive range of ales and beers and decorated with a great deal of breweriana such as bottles and brewery publicity (even a framed advertisement for Joseph Phillips' Celebrated Ales and Stout from the St.Martin's Brewery, Stamford which I had never seen before). Pictish Porter for £2.70, other local ales, friendly staff and customers even though most were Blades supporters drowning their sorrows. To be added to the already extensive list of essential pubs to visit when in Sheffield.

I visit Sheffield once or twice a year and therefore I visit the Sheaf View once or twice a year. Living in London I marvel at the chalk board price list everytime. Great spot, even better in the summer of course.

This was my first visit to this pub and I immediately thought - what has taken you so long!. I had seen it so many times from the train as we came into Sheffield. Terrific boozer and highly recommended. A great range of beer; super staff and large baps to soak up the ale. Breweriana on the walls and daily newspaper to read. The interior has obviously been altered over the years but with a good selection of beer and some genuine tlc it is amazing what can be done with a pub that many would have thought should have closed years ago (it is out of town and up a lane under the railway bridge (the pub on the main road there having closed and become a flooring shop). Anyway, jump on one of the regular buses from the city centre (20/25 etc) and make a point of getting to The Sheaf View - it should not be missed. Thanks to the landlord for the free pint (I answered a quiz quesion correctly as soon as I walked through the door).

It's hard to fault this wonderful, characterful pub except that I don't live closer!
It's everything you'd expect from a free house - individual interior decor, good atmosphere, friendly staff, but above all a great range of beers at very reasonable prices.
When it comes to sheer enjoyment pubco's and gastro's just can't compete with this type of pub.

I love this pub. Sheffield is of course an amazing place for pubs and this place was my favourite!
Lucky lucky locals.

I pretty much concur with everything that has been said. The clientele is a real cross-section and the beer is excellent. I had a pint of Spire Sergeant Pepper Stout at 5.5% ABV and my partner, White Rose White Lightning, a hoppy 4.4% pale ale, which were extremely well kept. No wonder it has so many entries in the Good Beer Guide. Pub was heaving on Saturday evening - says it all these days. Some interesting sandwiches on at lunchtime too.

Absolute gem of a place incongruously located up a small side-road with a view of a rusting railway bridge. Diverse mix of people and ages. Impressive range of ales from small breweries, I sampled Atlas and Easy Rider which were both great. They also have a guest scrumpy. As visitors from the south of England for the weekend, can't begin to tell you how friendly this place is but started to realise that this was probably normal for Sheffield.

A little out of the way but believe me it's worth it. 8 beers available, mostly from local microbreweries, as well as range of continental lagers- definitely the best in this part of Sheffield. Tried a couple of golden ales, both in fine form. The pub is pleasant and airy, generally open-plan but with some mock traditional lights fittings and original brewey mirrors etc. on the wall. There is a sepearte conservatory room at the back and an excellent beer garden. The pub was bustling on my visit with football fans but a friendly atmosphere prevails. These days, you cannot actually see the River Sheaf from the pub, despite the name. 10mins on the bus from the centre, or half an hour's walk.

I can't think of a better pub in terms of real ale choice and quality, continental beers and whiskeys. I'm hard pushed to think of a more pleasant, mixed clientele. I know it can't be beaten for value. Indeed, I'll be there in about an hour.

I used to live in Heeley and this was one of my favourites. Brilliant selection of ales, at excellent prices, and also a great selection of continental largers. The staff have been brillant on every visit, and always warm and welcoming. It is a great pub for all ages, and a must visit.

Great Pub, great views, excellent ales. Has an imaginative and constantly changing selection of ales and lagers. Often non-mainstream stuff - always well transported and kept. A little more on the edge than some 'Ale-Houses' and I have heard of troublesome customers. There are notices in the pub warning customers that they will not be welcome back if causing trouble - but I have only ever witnessed happy, friendly, helpful and chatty clientle. And I've been a lot recently!! Tough to beat in Sheffield.

Excellent choice of beer, helpful beer staff and a terrace with good views. Some friends have had some trouble with other customers, but the pub itself is very good.

What a gem!
First discovered this pub around 6 months ago. Nice location, just on the edge of the city centre. Mixed range of customers. No mainstream beers/lagers. Sizeable indoor area. Great outdoor terrace. Friendly staff.
There's usually 3 or 4 real ales on. In the time I've known this pub, my drink has been Erdinger Dunkel - a gem of a dark German beer and under 3 a pint!
I went in a couple of nights ago, and they've only got Sleeman Honey Brown Lager on draught! It's not cheap, but it's worth every penny. An absolute amazing beer in a very good pub.
Recommended.

When it gets busy this place is a nightmare - but once you have a beer in hand, this is a fantastic place on a warm summer evening. During quieter periods this is a brilliant place to drink at any time of the year.
The beer terrace and the conservatory are great areas. The main bar how ever can get a bit smokey.
The range of booze is phenomenal and the whole package adds up to the best pub in Sheffield!
