I feel the need to defend this place. I had lunch here last Tuesday and the food and Beer was up to the good standard of any of it's chain I have tried. The Veggie lasagne is wonderful.

This place has taken the trophy as the worst dining experience of my life. Raw food, coma-induced and incoherent staff, shocking service, cold food, and I left robbed of 60 and 2.5 hours of my Saturday afternoon. A Boots 3.29 meal-deal would have been so much more satisfying. Avoid like the plague is my advice.

Why do I keep trying this place? I think I want it to be good. But it's never made it. Sunday dinner tried today, cold, tiny & had scones for yorkshires. Pint of flower pots was 2 days past it's best. Poor in every way. A shame for such a great spot.

Reading all these negative reviews suprised me. We sat outside here last Summer, and it was excellent indeed. Staff were prompt and polite, drinks arrived VERY quickly, Stella was superb, served in a proper chilled Stella glass, and the Food was top quality as well. We stayed for a lot longer than we anticipated, just watching the crowds go by and relaxing. I would certainly go back here......

Standard Slug & Lettuce. Over-priced and lacking in real ale. All attempted style, no substance.

Nice place for a few beers if the manager is in the mood, if not, avoid or you will be scared away for life!! Great at weekends/evenings as the team are great and you are safe from management who have a problem with eveyone who are not their mates!! Despite negative comments, I would recommend for an enjoyable 'chilled out' night.

Is it just me or is everyone freakishly tall in here? Or am I just a short arse? Tall freaks apart its okay though needs more beer on tap, not just that John Smiths crap. And its expensive, and its stupid, actually I don't really like it.. at all..nope

Well, its one redeeming feature is that fifteen seconds after putting your drink down you could be buying your Christmas cards in WhSmith as it's right by the High Street. Great location and view of the Cathedral. Okayish place really - that's the word for it, okayish.

Corporate fodder. For all those 'boring' office party-after-work types that are scared to try and walk into any other bar. Cheap nasty 'pre packaged' type food, and horrible (dirty?/chemical) falvoured beers. stay clear, unless ofcourse you like wearing knitted tops and discussing the last weeks work in the office in detail. B-O-R-I-N-G ZZZzzzzzz

Bit of knoweldge here: This place and the two (now) pasty shops by the Buttercross used to be inns back in the 13th odd century, they were called Heaven, Hell and Paradise, when folk came out of the very small church (St Lawrence's between all three) after service they would turn to one of these inns depending how they felt. Not sure which one this place would fall into now, good for the odd works bash, but I wouldn't be a regular. Beers not kept well, inc chemical lager! Food ok.

Good fodder and good location, but full of what i term boys and girls. more of a place to be seen at than a serious boozer.

A pretty good Slug & Lettuce. Very smoky, plenty of space and seating, typical chain food and a lively atmosphere. Good bar for a weekend afternoon.

Never liked it in here, only went in coz the missus fancied it. Too many pretentious folks for my liking.

Not at all bad for a chain. The food is fine, service quite good and usually busy enough to be happening.

A lovely trendy place to take teenage daughters for a good lunch after shopping. Usual extensive menu to suit your mood. I recommend the Mezze. Can be a bit cold sitting by ill fitting windows in the winter!

Strictly one for the beautiful people. Wasn't it The Stranglers who said 'it's only the children of the f****** rich who tend to be good lookin'. Being fair it isn't that bad.

Slug & Lettuce, nuff said! This is definitely one of the better executions of the formula however, well designed interior, good staff and the usual wide choice of food. Popular meeting place in a fantastic central location by the Cathedral.
