Busy on our visit due to a Wedding at The Abbey . Huge outside seating area. Nice Pint of Ringwood Forty Niner . Huge Doorstep Sandwiches on offer.

One of Sherborne's flagship pubs and after the reading the reviews on here my hopes were not that good, however i actually did quite like the place. The interior is huge and has many lovely seating areas to suite all tastes. Very cheap indeed (£2.30 for a pint of Carlsberg) and our food was adequate enough. Would visit again.

Visited this pub one lunchtime for something to eat and drink. The pub is surprisingly big and is family friendly though the décor might need updating a little in places. Took advantage of the 2 for £10 main meal deal and had a pint of well kept Jester beer which was one of 4 real ales on tap. The toilets were generally clean and the service was friendly and efficient.
Overall, I couldn't really fault the visit and would recommend you visiting too.
9/10.

Really wanted to like this place. It's local, it has a great looking menu online, and it's one of the largest pubs in the area. Sadly, we won't be back. Food wasn't nearly as appetizing as the menu appears and service? Hmmm...what service? We waited and waited and waited, finally had to get up and wander around the front of the pub looking for our server, thought about trying to estimate our meal and leave it on the table but decided otherwise. Our server, when she appeared, was quite pleasant but truly, the inefficiency of the place was frustrating and added an element of irritation to a nice afternoon in town.

I'd say below avergare. Disinterested staff, no real ale (and what was on was tasteless), unappetizing food. What is potentially a great pub - it has all the facilities, the setting, the location and the cutomer base - is nothing more than a mediocrity catering for the disinterested tourist wanting fast food and rehydration. The place lets down the town as a whole and I agree that walking another 60 seconds to the Plume or 2 mins to the Digby Tap is a far better option.

Just one word sums this place up....... AVERAGE. Go to the Digby Tap instead.
|
Mostly average - the beer and the food. Below average - the bar staff who always appear to be more interested in chatting between themselves than serving customers. Above average - the Plume of Feathers pub along the road!

Nice looking pub from the outside, but inside it's just a regular chain pub. Marston's in this case, so it's not even one of the better chains. Bog standard sort of menu, fried this - mico waved that. Beer was run of the mill stuff- nothing special there. All in all just another boring boozer.

Food ok, friendly staff and good service.

So-so sort of pub. Visited on a Sunday afternoon. Average beer, average food, slow service. Smoky in bar area. Shan't be rushing back.
|
Nice for an early evening drink but the food is a big let down.

After reading Dick Stiltons comments on the pubs in Sherborne, I decided to pay them a visit myself. Dont often go pub crawling, but it was worth a try. Started off in the Britannia, then the Digby Tap and followed up in the half moon. All I can say is it is similar to a Weatherspoons, bar staff boring, decor great for this type of pub. However, not having bar stools against the bar made it seem like a cattle auction going up to buy beer. Prices of beer and lagers - well more expensive by far compared to the Tap and the Britannia. Half pub half restaurant and not very good at either. Decor is drab and I have experienced better atmosphere in a graveyard. Its a pity because this place is pitched in a prime site and a lot could be made of it. I dont blame the management I blame the short sighted bean counters at HQ. Quite frankly there are better pubs nearby (Digby Tap) so give this one a wide berth unless 'Tacky' is your thing.
