I'd never been to Pitlochry before and it seems a lovely little town, albeit a bit touristy. Tourists had spilled into the Old Mill, making it fairly busy early on a Tuesday afternoon. Most were eating. But a few locals were drinking. 3 ales plus a real cider were on - Strathbaan Head East & Due South, Cromarty Happy Chappy & Cairn o'Mohr Cider. The cider was a new one on me and was very nice indeed. The Old Mill has a fully functional watermill just outside. I agree that it does have the feeling of a hotel and for all I know it may have rooms. It's clearly a popular tourist destination in the town. But I did like this place.

Nice pint of 'Head East', pleasant enough staff and welcomingly warm on a cold night. Those were the only pluses, however: SouthYorkshireman is bang on in describing it as being like a hotel bar; it's ludicrously expensive (£8.60 for a pint and a nip); and it was full of idiots taking pictures of their drinks.

I tend to agree with previous comments. Looks good from outsid, and yes, its perfectly fine once inside, but it's lacking any real atmosphere and feels like a hotel bar. They did sell a few hand-pulled real ales, so it does have its plus points however, so by all means give it a try, just don't expect a great pub

looks and feels exactly like your average 'hogs head' or 'litten tree'... in other words a souless paint by numbers chain pub. im not sure if it is even a chain pub but theyve managed to create the sterile feel of one.
did'nt stay to drink or eat. why anyone would travel to such a special part of the world and put up with somewhere so devoid of local feeling is beyond me.

Walked in... looked at a very uninspiring menu - considering that this is basically a restaurant and then went off looking elsewhere.
With little joy, it should be added.

Go to a tourist resort and pay tourist prices!!! Thats life. However it's a nice place to sit in the sun and the beer was good. Never tried the food cause I hadn't won the lottery that week!

Naff pub and expensive , avoid

Total rip off - pints of beers ridiculous price - no atmosphere - won't go back

A year later and I tried it again. This time it was 3.30 for two halves of Landlord - more than you'd pay in London! It was much the same as last year, but a bit busier (with tourists, not locals).

Did lack atmosphere during my visit during my holiday in Pitlochry - although I guess it improves during the busy season.
I was a bit surprised that it was 4.50 in total for a pint of Deuchars IPA and a half of Timothy Taylor Landlord. So I guess the prices might put some off?
Three of the four real ales during my visit were Deuchars, Landlord, Tetley and AN Other that I can't remember! Apart from us, there were a couple of people at the bar and one other group in the pub - at round about 10pm. Come 10.45pm and they were quite keen to see the back of us and get closing up. I suppose they were quiet though....
