A lively pub when we were in, singer on Friday night was ok. Good choice of beers but not a lot of space inside.

In mid-March, this pub announced its closure for five days - to allow for routine maintenance.

Before the forthcoming 'busy spring and summer' period ahead. Plenty of time for painting now!

Tucked around the back of JDW - came up high on Tripadvisor for food but is also Cask Marque - so thought we would investigate.

Its a holiday pub for tourists. The place is all setup for dining, with the only comfortable place for drinkers on stools in front of the bar.

At least you can listen to the conversations... Punter: Timothy Taylor, is that from Wales? Barman - "I think its from Yorkshire".

It was a nice pint of Landlord - served in unusual branded, handled jugs.

Good for families / holiday makers.

The hidden gem of Llandudno pubs. While food centric they offer 6 casks, the 2 of which I had were spot on. Friendly staff and a decent outside seating area at the front. Ales £3.70-3.80 which given the setting and quality wasn't too bad either. Well worth a visit if you're in Llandudno.

always liked this pub on previous visits to llandudno, but this is not now a PUB main focus is food, We had to sit on two stools near the toilets because we were only drinking, never again.

A good selection of 6 real ales.Food a bit pricey.Went in on Tuesday evening and it was fairly busy.Went again on Wednesday evening but it was closed to the public because of a private function, which I found unusual for a pub.

The Cottage Loaf is in the centre of Llandudno and seems to be a lot older than most of the surrounding buildings. On a recent trip we visited the pub twice, having just a drink on the first occasion, and both a drink and a meal on the second. Around four or five ales were available on both occasions and I particularly enjoyed something called London Porter, from the Colchester Brewery, I believe.

Being situated literally next-door to the Palladium (Wetherspoons) it is inevitable that the two would be compared. While the prices for food at the Cottage Loaf are much higher than at the Palladium, the quality is better and I think worth paying for (the haddock and chips I had at the Cottage Loaf was very good). On the downside, the Cottage Loaf feels more like a restaurant than a pub.

I thought my memories of this place from several years ago were rose-tinted because this was the only decent pub in town. But no – it really is as great as I remember it !

A low, white painted, slate-roofed building, that now occupies almost the whole of one block, though when you get inside it has obviously been much expanded over the years. The main entrance leads you to the oldest part of the building with low beams, stone floors, and large tables & benches. To the right is a newer part, raised up with a wooden floor and with smaller tables and chairs (put me in mind of a tea shop !), whilst straight ahead is a large new area. By now you’re wondering where the bar is – you already some past it ! It’s immediately on the right by the entrance.

There were 5 beers on tap consisting of 3 locals, one from Cheshire and Courage Directors. I had a very nice half of Great Orme Cambria.

Other correspondents have mentioned that the place is very much orientated towards dining, but I didn’t notice that. Yes, food is available. From what I remember it looked nice but wasn’t cheap.

And I have to report that it has the best barmaids in town !

Finally, anyone struggling to find the place, go down the narrow alley by Wetherspoons and it’s on your right.

8/10 – a proper pub, tucked away from the main tourist areas.

Best pub roast I've ever had. Went there on a Sunday afternoon after a long walk up the great Great Orme – not sure it's the best place in town for evening drinking, but for what we were looking for, perfect.

Busy pub with a decent choice of cask beers, but very food-oriented, and menu distinctly pricey.

Smart old pub, exceptionally on a gorgeous Sunday (Victorian steam engines outside), so only space in the garden. Local beer was among the best I found around here, though a bit cold for some. Nice place to eat if less busy.

Much cosier than the Palladium next door, and with friendlier and more efficient bar-staff (even though the pub was very crowded). Good selection of well-kept beer from North Wales and Cheshire. Would happily go back again.

Food and beer exceptional. was very very busy... but that is because the food and beer is very good. Make sure you reserve a table in advance.

I had a pint of Innkeepers in here on Monday last week whilst on holiday in Llandudno. I thought it was a decent enough pub. The ale was very good & bar staff friendly too. Would definitely recommend a visit.

I thought this would be a nice cheap place to go for a new visitor to the town. Not so. Get this - double vodka and mixer - over 5!!! Outside of expensive clubs or super trendy bars I've never come across that sort of price before. Where I'm from you can get that in some places for 2!! And those places are smarter than this. I don't mind rough looking places, which this is (apart from a nicer bit up some steps), they're usually cheap and friendly. They are NEVER, in my experience, anywhere near as expensive as this. Now I wonder - was this a special price cos I wasn't a local/am English?

Imagine taking a 17th century farmhouse & plonking it in a backstreet in the centre of a town & you have The Cottage Loaf. Whitewashed with small windows, plenty of colourful plants & hanging baskets make this a very quaint place to be. The front beer garden is a real suntrap & the rear has shelter if the weather isn't so good. Inside the rustic theme continues with a stone floor, low beams & large wood burning stove. There is a slightly more modern upper level next to the bar. Gertie Sweet New World Pale & Conway Brewery Welsh Pride were 2 of the 4 real ales on offer. Amazing this place has survived considering its right next door to Wetherspoons, but I think they've carved out a bit of a niche as it seems to be a popular music venue.

Used to enjoy the atmosphere here on my annual visit, but last time the place was nearly empty.I cant see how it can survive on these high prices, especially with a Wetherspoons next door.A real shame.

full of gothics, my god, whats happening, felt like i'd landed in the middle of a film set. Prices where ridiculously high and the staff could manage a smile.
Beer not bad but by no means the best by a long stretch.

Must agree with Daz, excellent pint of Directors. Great atmosphere, log fire, wooden beams, pub for both 30 somethings and old 'uns. Rest of places in Llandudno full of tarts and oiks. Bar staff could be a bit more cheerful though.

Nice pub to relax in after work and enjoy a quite pint, i am regular in this pub but could do with more entertainment rather than the weekly quiz, more live music and disco nights.
shaun45889 - 12 Aug 2007 22:27
