Yes this place is interesting. We came here last week hearing good things. on tap was Rutgers, Herd, and Noggins. I tried the Herd and my friend and business partner Tanz tried the Rutger. We sat near the window and looked out onto the delightful Sydenham Road (what a wonderful place Sydenham is!!) Tanz said his rutgers had a faint whiff of summer socks and I had to admit it did smell rather unusual. My Herd was slightly on the cheesy side but palatable nonetheless. We then ordered food. I opted for the Sydenham special (deep fried underpants, essence of christmas cake and Chris Waddle's mullet) and Tanz decided a packet of Landlord's nuts would suffice. The fayre was of a passable variety but the deep fried underpants were a bit tough and like the Herd slightly cheesy. Tanz said the Landlord's nuts tasted lovely, though slightly oversalted.
After having a quick wrestle in front of the log fire we said our goodbyes to Enoch the proprieter and headed out onto the spanking boards of Sydenham Pier and had a swim in the Ocean.

It would be a shame for such a landmark pub to disappear, although it was a very mediocre pub indeed for rather too many years.

The Greyhound closed on 11th August. A property development company intends to demolish it and build a block of flats with a bland, modern bar on the ground floor. The Greyhound is an 1873 purpose-built pub that deserves to be saved. Years ago it was a great pub and it could be again.

As soon as you see the yellow planning application form posted up, please sumbit an objection to Lewisham Council.

Is it really going to be turned into flats, a sad ending for a once wonderful place - apparently not historic enough for a listing or English heritage. Shame on you Sydenham.

Karaoke here is the pits and the custom aint too grand either

Thank God I left Sydenham and moved to Forest Hill. Another pub that was so great 15 years ago and so awful now. Several bad makeovers and a loss of the famous stone Greyhounds (stolen by builders). Once was a mecca for pub rock, jazz, alternative comedy (where for example Vic Reeves cut his teeth as the compare, although the grumpy man has very selective memory). And a very historic pub as well. Shame

new owners now with intimidating door staff who ask you for a fiver to go in. un-real.

Would only drink here if avoiding AA meetings. Although not the worst pub in Sydenham

I dont mean to be a snob, but yuk.

In addition to the below, it has the *worst* pub quiz in the world.

(On the other hand it's the only pub in which I have watched two test matches at once...)

A great shame to see a lovely Victorian interior ripped out, to be replaced by a cheap 'changing rooms' style make over. The original could have been made funky just like they have done in The Greyhound in Dulwich village, up the road. It can never be replaced. Surely there must be a law about unnecesary vandalism like this. The pub is in a scuzzy area so I guess it would not have worked anyway. Rough clientele, noisy down market bar, zero atmosphere.

Not too bad a pub, but I agree with previous comments. It was a great pub, in the 80's, but was utterly ruined when they ripped out the old bar, and the snug. Decent enough selection of beers, but lacks any real atmosphere. Still, probably the best pub in Sydenham.

An ok but pub but spoilt by the high 'chav' ratio. It has a pool table (never seen it free though), screens for sport etc. It's ok but could be so much better. Still one of the best pubs in the locality though.
