Agree with the previous comments that this is a pub more set up to dining than drinking. Even when I pass on a Monday lunchtime, the car park is pretty packed, so they must be doing something right.
I only popped in for a pint. Had a choice of four ales - London Pride, Doom Bar, Southwold Bitter and Titanic Stout, which was a pleasant surprise. A pint of Pride cost £3.80, went down very well and if that's a yardstick then they look after their beers.

Very expensive and over rated food (IMHO) - Sunday lunch with a couple of drinks came to circa £50 EACH when we got the bill and averaged it out (we had 3 courses and coffee) and the quality was mediocre to say best (all our party agreed)....atmosphere was stiflingly hot and stuffy and very noisy...only the puds were any good. Service was ok, but snotty maître d'. Not a place I would go to for a nice quiet drink at all...shame as the setting is lovely. Not recommended as a pub or a restaurant (there are many better places in the area to eat and/or drink IMHO).

Great place for a meal out, especially if you have something to celebrate (tell them what it is when you're booking). Book well ahead if you want to eat inside on a Sunday; I thought ten days would be enough and had to settle for 'lunch' at 3.15. The food is first class and the service is marked by attention to detail -- while remaining friendly and informal. Only three ales on draught but that's three more than most restaurants have.

Okay if you prefer gastropub overpriced food rather than good honest beer ini the evening. Pay your money and take your choice.

Went here with wife in September 2010. Our opinion - absolutely brilliant. Food was excellent. Decided to arrange Christmas do for 9 of our family. It was done brilliantly. Everyone liked it. No complaints at all.

Fantastic gastropub, and an great find in the middle of the Bedfordshire countryside. Far more geared towards eating than casual drinking now, but the tasteful makeover inside has created a cracking place for a quick pint, bar snack or full-on sitdown meal. You certianly won't feel out of place if you're just popping in for a drink, particularly in the summer when you can plonk yourself down in the large garden outside.

Went for Sunday lunch (book ahead, it gets packed) and can highly recommend. The food was great - a notch above average pub grub in price but well worth it. The fact that the place was completely full speaks voulmes about how well this place is run. A great example of a country pub that has evolved without losing it's charm or character.

Reopened in October 07 after refurbishment and what a corker of a pub!!
Ok not a great selection of real ales but this place has much much more to offer than just real ale. Has a good selection of lagar and wine. The food and restaurant are out of this world. A great place for that special occasion at a reasonable price. Staff very friendly and helpful and the food is very well presented and tastes excellent. The decor is nice and has a relaxing ambiance. 10 out of 10 for beautiful little pub.

I love the ambience and character of this pub but on my last two visits have been disappointed by the food. My husband and I visited this week and paid 16 for an aged rib eye steak and asked for it to be cooked "medium". When it arrived it was "well done" and very tough. My own meal was a vegetarian celeriac and potato rosti. It was a huge portion but rather uninspiring, served with a cooked tomato and green salad leaves. We both left feeling disappointed with the food, which neither of us wanted to finish. This pub has, however, always served rather excellent desserts and the rum and raisin ice cream can be highly recommended. One irritating thing about the pub is that the staff have obviously been told to look happy, smile and be enthusiastic. This is normally a good thing but we both found the service a little obtrusive at times - we got two check-backs within a minute of one another and the approaches by the waiting staff at times seemed overdone and a little insincere. On the whole it's a lovely pub to visit but I wouldn't eat from the evening menu again and would probably stick to bar snacks or Sunday lunch in the pub rather than eat in the restaurant again.

Could hardly move inside, so had to sit outside all night. Not a good place if you just want to go for a drink as no seating inside for drinkers and bar is very small. More of a restaurant.

Really disappointed with this pub. They cram as many people into the pub as they can and the food is pretty average.

There are better food pubs in the area

I've only drunk here. Sat outside one evening and had a few pints of decent ale and watched the car park fill up with expensive cars disgorging people wearing their best outfits. It's a nice spot and I'd definitely come back again to have something to eat. Michael Winner likes it apparently.

Dining pub ,but superb food and service.just go into the bogs to see how much they look after the place and the patrons. The beer is good to with the local Sandy beer on tap.

Fantastic pub, staff and food second-to-none in my opinion. Actual bar area not massive, but cosy with plenty of seating both inside and out. Cracking views over rural mid-beds. Easy off-road floodlit parking.

This pub is a delight and the comments I have seen are agreed. I would warn, however, that this is very much a "dining" pub these days, with fine food and wines. Quite "smart".

Nevertheless worth a visit, but it's not a "tee shirt 'n' jeans sort of a place!

Small but very pretty pub in the heart of rural Bedfordshire. The food is of a very high standard. Staff were friendly and highly professional and the beer garden is lovely, probably the stand-out feature.

Nice pub in a tiny villiage, nice beer garden.

The food in this pub is excellent and the pub is one of the finest in the county. Service is excellent and the staff are always friendly and welcoming. 9/10.
