This place concentrates much more on being a restaurant than a pub. Food good but expensive, snack menu OK and the soup was excellent. Shepherd Neame Spitfire was very good, Harveys Sussex pump was off when I was there. A certain amount of chaos behind the bar and everyone else paying for drinks on credit cards made service painfully slow but food arrived quickly after we eventually managed to order.

This place is under new management and has apparently been taken over by Mark Raffan who was a Chef at Gravetye Manor a very select upmarket Restaurant/Club not far away. This explains the very excellent food which although not cheap is no more expensive than many other pubs in Sussex and is certainly of a higher standard. I cant comment on the beer as I didn't have any. The pub was recommended to me by several people and I will definitely be going back.

the food here was good until today, change of staff and food, nothing like it was 10 days ago.waited more than one hour. T bone steak had no T bone or taste.before food was home cooked but the steak pies are now in pots and look to be bought in.This place has changed virtually over night, a shame. not value for money now.there appeared to be only young teen agers working in the kitchen, hence the long delay! and perhaps the poor quality. We speak of falling standards, well this one.

Visited this pub on the way back from taking my grandson on the Bluebell Railway Santa Special. Sunday, early evening few people in the restaurant but bar was empty. Old pub with an extension, which houses most of the restaurant. Beer was nicely kept. Service was on the slow side considering it was quiet. Food was good prices on the high side (but not expensive) However we got generous portions of traditional food eg Ham Eggs and Chips. Not so generous on the prawn curry so if you hungry go for something safe.

They've got a nice new inn sign but why does it depict a WHITE lion?!

Went for lunch. Service very slow.Beer still on good form. Unfortunately piped music was on; bizarrely it included the Z-Cars theme tune!

Waited too long to be served; must have been wearing my "invisibility cloak". Place wasn't too busy either. Not so much a drinkers' pub as a restaurant but the "Kentish Best" was in fine form.
Pleased too, that there was no piped music when I visited.

Shepherd Neame pub, recently transferred to tenancy after being managed.Friendly staff and good food and beer, but its decor is very much "restaurant". Very open and bright, with modern art, sofas etc. No cosy corners just for a pint or two!
