How I love this pub. Food great, even when busy during the local festival Nestival, staff amazing, music too. JUST GO TO THIS PUB (though can you fix the locks in one of the ladies loos please)

My favourite pub. Great beer, free bands every weekend, art gallery, good cheap food, loud music, cheap hostel upstairs and very unpretentious real Deptford people both sides of the bar. Nuff said
|
Great punky pub that was a little daunting at first and I've now settled into the great vibe here. Not an amazing selection of beers but they have added Estrella on top, which has proved quite popular. Good gigs on quite regularly, friendly staff, friendlier locals

Perfectly fine locals pub with clean glasses and friendly bar staff.
|
Excellent ramshackle local with extraordinarily friendly bar staff and a great south London clientele, kind of feels like being in someone's front room.

Stumbled across the Birds Nest on Friday night en Route from Dog & Bell to New Cross, and loved it. Im amazed pubs like this still exist. Anywhere else the central bar, bar stools, walls and pool table would have been torn out in favour of open-plan blandness. A three-piece band was playing in the corner (no cover charge). Not someone youd listen to at home, but ideal for a night out. There was a friendly lass with a blue Mohawk behind the bar when was the last time you remembered what the bar staff looked like? Didnt realise there was bottled-ale behind the bar, until saw the comment below like the Dog & Bell even better now. A pretty mixed clientele in the right numbers. Age-wise, most looked like they remembered the days when most pubs were like this (except smokier, of course). According to the flyer I picked up, the night was called Im really excited about Deptford well with pubs like this, Im can see where theyre coming from.

Great little pub, very loud when bands are on, so not for a quiet drink if you visit on the weekend!
Nice selection of bottled ales, and Deptford's usual mix of colourful locals and art student types.
Pool table room, and loads of flyers and posters for local gigs, along with a few more tourist-y leaflets intended for people staying at the hostel upstairs.
Smoking area out front leaves a lot to be desired, but it's a sign of the times.....

Great pub. Got a real punky vibe these days, which is definately a good thing! XD Also, great barstaff who really know their onions drink wise. Watch out for the cheeky punk who works behind the bar, he's got a lot to say for himself. Some of it is pretty close to the bone.

GOOD PUB! NICE STAFF DEER DRINKS BUT WE LIKE IT!!

A real gem in the up & coming Deptford area in SE London. The Bird's Nest is everything a pub should be--friendly staff, good range of beers on tap, tasty pub food (pizzas, nachos, sandwiches), free live music featuring talented local bands, friendly locals of all ages, rotating art on wall featuring Deptford's creative talent...and one of best Guiness pints in London. The new manager is pulling out all the stops. It's worth a visit

From outside looks good however inside a nightmare. I was told that the guitaist was the best in London. If he is heaven help us! But he did love his self. Do not make eye contact with any of the regulars or you will be greeted with "You gota problem". A thouroughly scarry unenjoyable experience.

this certainly is a pub to mix it up with...sometimes too many blokes (local and passing tradesmen) and not nearly enough students from the nearby Laban. Great acoustic sunday evenings, friendly pub.
|
There are no other pubs in the area to compare with the Birds. Great atmosphere, fantastic music, friendly staff and intelligent (most of the time!) conversation. I LOVE it!
|
What can I say a friendly local where all classes, colours, creeds come to soak up the atmosphere and to drink loads. Great music every weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun) and quizzes on a Thursday. A great community pub, based in one amazing area of sarf london.
Recommended!!
