If you are into real ales then don't bother visiting this place. They only had two ale pumps and only one of those appeared to be in use - it was labelled as London Pride. Not one of my ales of choice, but any port in a storm... When I asked for a pint of said beverage I was told it was 'off' although the pump label hadn't been turned round. I asked the barmaid if they had any other ales but she seemed confused and didn't seem to have any idea what I was asking for. The bottled selection in the chiller cabinet didn't look promising either. I decided to settle for a frothy pint of Theakstons keg IPA - and was stung for £4 - FAR too much for the area.
Although I have lived most my life with 3 or 4 miles of this pub I had never set foot in it until last night. Now I know why. I only went there to see the band as I know them. The music was good, and the building was OK as were the staff, but I could see why the place was nearly empty on a Friday night apart from a handful of locals and some familiar faces from Barnet who had come to see the band.
As an ale drinker it's not a pub I would ever choose to drink in even if I lived just round the corner. No problem with the regulars or staff, but there is no reason for me to ever set foot in there again unless they start to take the ales seriously - I don't they they get it at all.

I am looking for the governor of the pub from the 1991 time frame - Roy and Hazel Bell. Does anyone have any contact info for them? I came over to Southgate in 1991 for 4 months from the US and frequented this pub and they made me feel very welcome!

Fab pub! Used to come here years ago until it went a bit down hill. New owners, family run pub, only family employed, so you see the same faces & they remember you. Had an amazing burger & hand cut chips, all made fresh on request. The staff are brilliant, friendly, accommodating & attentive. Pretty back garden terrace with a separate, secure brand new children's play area. We were only stopping in for a quick drink on the way to somewhere else but stayed all day until 10pm. This I'd due to the great atmosphere, staff & also the entertainment, darts, pool & the most impressive juke box (7million songs)! Highly recommend.

New Landlords in. London Pride has been added and food will be on again soon not unless you prefer the Wimpy bar opposite. Great jukebox. Big selection. I stuck to Smiths, Steely Dan and The Stones but there are enough weird Kraut and prog epics to clear the room if need be.

Clean pub, one of the better ones in Southgate, but no good for real ale. Only GK IPA on and it was on the turn. Took it back and was replaced with a Guinness but the pumpclip wasn't turned round! Really seems to be no demand for proper beer in this part of London which is not surprising if this is what is served. Apart from that the pub itself is ok.

I went in here last night after the spoons was getting mobbed out with all the kids & yob drinkers coming in too tank up on cheap Booze before moving on too the Sun Etc. This place seems too have been decorated a bit lately It looked reasonably good and staff were friendly & polite. It was not too bad for a Friday evening around 21.00 it as was not full of the usual Friday night piss heads or loud crowed. I had a Pint of Guinness But there was also G/K IPA on Tap which was the only Ale I see. Theres also plenty of outside seating in the beer Garden at the rear and also seating out the front as well.

Sometimes I occasionally go in here once a month on a Thursday evening whilst waiting for friends to turn up before we go on to a meeting. Not a bad Pub now its defiantly getting better after years of Bad management that seemed to attract the kid & hooligan element. The Beer is certainly Improved lets hope it picks up a bit more now theres a better Manager.

that should have been pub, not pun. As you probably realised.

The fruit machine in this pun is pure evil. Otherwise, nice place.
