This pub will be closing soon to become yet another restaurant just what southgate needs I think not. I cant see that lasting long either there's just too many places around here for gut stuffers to feed there guts cant see enough customers to support another one that's the reason this ones closing. This pub will be no great loss as its never been that good in recent years since it went all foodie and ended up like a restaurant anyway and with no real ale or atmosphere it was on a looser from the start.

too expensive. lack of any atmosphere due to lack of people i guess. not place you can go to relax after work. better off in spoons

I went in this Pub last Sunday night the first thing I noticed was Its Painted A Horrible Pink colour on the outside. I only had a Quick Pint as I found the place very lacking in any welcome Or atmosphere and there was no Ale on as all as the Ale pump clips were turned round. The Barman seemed more interested in watching the Football on the TV rather than serving any waiting customers not a good sign. I found the Place was not that busy even though there was football on.
After a quick Pint I left and went over the Spoons instead as the Ale Festival is on.
I Don't think I would go back in here next time I'm passing as theres much better Pubs in the area.

I went to the pub for the first time in ages last night as I saw it had been refurbished. What a pleasant surprise and at last just what was needed in Southgate. A decent pub for normal people who do not want to be surrounded by kids and chavs. A comfortable, relaxing pub that serves Tim Taylors landlord with excellent Thai Food. Well Done!

This pub was taken over about 8 months ago, there is no jazz anymore - sadly, but they do serve thai food. The place has been recently refurbished, inside & out, & is now very... erm...pink, it's ok but perhaps a little bit too pink!

It's also somewhat emptier than it used to be but this may have something to do with the exhorbitant price of a pint of ale! I'm not asking for Wetherspoon prices, I don't mind paying a little more for a pleasanter environment, but at that price I'll be taking myself elsewhere. Fortunately there are plenty of alternative pubs in the area for a cheaper pint in less pink surroundings!

I found this pub really comfortable and had a great atmosphere. The staff were really friendly and found the manager/landlady very friendly and welcoming (unlike the last review!). The prices in this pub are in keeping with the area and the thai food was lovely. I would recommend this pub to anyone who enjoys a quiet drink in a pleasant atmosphere.

Don't bother.

Expensive drinks, dead atmosphere (people stay away because of the prices), cringeworthy Motown on EVERY SINGLE TIME I've been in... staff are friendly but battleaxe manager/owner stands on the end of the bar watching every move you make. Geared up for the upwardly mobile, over-21 professional with disposable income, seemingly hostile to the working class. It only gets a 3 because of the food in the Thai restaurant, which is excellent.

Great Thai food restaurant, well thought out lay out, interior pleasing to the eye, certainly a pricier pub for the area making it appealing for the clientele bracket mid 20s to mid 30s who enjoy a comfortable life .

I certainly like it.....

Bring it on

Upon entering the waggon I was greeted by a very friendly and enthusiastic barmaid, which was great after leaving the Osidge Arms hellhole. Adnams was available alongside a varied mix of regular and premium lagers.

I think that it is aimed at a younger crowd as it has a modern feel and sofas everywhere as apparently young people cant sit on normal chairs. At one end of the pub there are stairs going up to a seated dining type area and down to a pool table. I think that it has been very well done as it is very light a fresh in the pub with a couple of well placed plasma screens with the ability to show sky sports. The music that was playing was good, but not too loud to be intrusive.

There is decking along the side of the pub that stretches to the rear where there is a beer garden with ample seating. One small problem is that it is a little close to a busy petrol garage.

I think that the food is done by the Black Orchid Thai team, which also operate in the John Baird in Muswell Hill if Im not mistaken.

This is a decent pub, probably my favourite in Southgate and Im not gay and have no sexual preference towards parrots (Ryserons 31/01/08).

I have been going in here occasionally on a Thursday Evening whilst waiting for colleagues to turn up on our way to a Meeting seems to be a nice OK sort of bar but with a modern feel to it. No Kids or under 21s makes it good you also don't get the show offs and fake designer wearing flash Harry's Like some Pubs in this area. Beer seemed to be good if a little limited in choice. Don't Know about food as Ive not eaten in here but it looks good.

Gay friendly, polysexual pub.

At last a decent pub in Southgate!!!!! Great selection of beer, a really good pub food menu and friendly staff. There is now no need to go to Winchmore hill or Muswell hill. thank God!!!!!!!

was in here a couple of sundays ago.

jazz was ok if thats your scene. its not my kind of music so we sat outside. however i noticed when i went in to the bar that the jazz was VERY loud. if you dont like jazz then this is not going to be an enjoyable experience as its too loud to really have a conversation with anyone.

the bar staff were quite slow but it wasnt exactly busy so it didnt take too long to get served.

the beer selection is on the "trendy imported so i can charge double the price" side of things. for example i asked for a bottle of budweiser but instead of the bog standard one you get everywhere else i got the premium foriegn one (not sure where its from) at twice the price.

thats fine but all i wanted was a pint of fosters. in the end i decided to go for the hoegarden.

no teenagers in there which is probably a good thing.

overall a nice relaxing atmosphere. on the pricey side though and the beer quality and selection isnt that good.

really nice atmosphere on a sunday night, beer was very good also, worth visiting for the jazz alone!

A relaxed atmosphere and very friendly staff. Over 21's so you're not surrounded by teenagers! Finally it has veggie food but could always do with more.
Skysports is now available & the Sunday night jazz is a fantastic way to end the weekend!

shame they don't put more effort into catering for veggies - how sick we are of being offered frozen spicy beanburgers. Very difficult to find a decent pub with decent veggie food these days - why? This is London in 2005! Even the heartiest of meat eaters enjoy a veggie meal.

If your looking for a great evening out in Southgate then look no further, this pub caters for us OVER 21s, OK a little pricy and they dont have SKY SPORTS but not everyone is looking for a cheap pint and sport. Have not seen any trouble at all since they gave the Waggon a complete make over. The staff are very friendly, and the beer is good. Jazz is a must. Quiz nights great fun too. I spend a lot of time here, as you can probably guess. A+++++ to The Waggon, Southgate needs you.

I have'nt been in this pub for years, so when I popped in last week I was amazed!!! It's great, just what southgate needed somewhere for grownups to drink. I had a fab night thanks to the staff who were friendly.
akasha - 6 May 2005 11:50
I found this pub to be very friendly, with a warm almost cosmopolitan feel to it considering it is Southgate, and very helpful, fun staff. I heard a couple of people speak of their preference to this pub over others in the area. Have also attended this bar on a Sunday and enjoyed the jazz greatly, especially the jam nights on the first of each month.
I would highly recommend a visit to the Waggon!!!
libbington - 3 May 2005 13:41
Have been here for jazz night very loud and very poor.. No atmosphere and also too tight to pay for sky!!
Steve100 - 25 Apr 2005 16:21
brilliant jazz session last sunday. looking forward to next week already!!!!
anonymous - 22 Apr 2005 09:46
Full of Southgate local drunk scum. Now open late attracts all the little chavs.
