bjbrummiejohn : you've just reminded me that I was well entertained by the BBC News speech-recognition subtitles machine's getting it badly wrong time and time again. That and the WWII sarcasm for the beer ads.

Tiny little Shepherd Neame bozzer. More punters sitting outside than in last Saturday afternoon when I visited. 3 hand pulls. I went for a pint of the Master Brew which was OK for £3.20 A TV was on showing BBC News without the sound but with sub titles. Agree with the last poster regarding the visit to the loo-I wouldn't want to be too pissed as you would proberly fall down and never get up again.

I always found this quite a welcoming little pub and the beer's been good too.
The food's been simple but fine, even if the descent to the WCs is a bit tortuous.
Being a small place, if you get the wrong type in, you can't get far away, though.

Things must have gone considerably down hill since the last punters visit , beers hadn't changed . Customers some bloke about 30 thought the bnp were the best thing since sliced bread ,a really awlful place , beer quality nuff said

This is a very small, cosy and welcoming pub sandwiched between the imposing Churchill Square shopping centre and a busy Brighton High Street more suited to the Weatherspoons and Yates's of this world. The interior comprises of one small room with a bar at the rear and about six or seven tables in the seating area in front. There are also a few tables outside for those hoping for a pint in the sun. It's a Shepherd Neame pub and there were three beers on offer when I went (Spitfire, Kent's Best and Master Brew). I tried the Spitfire and found it to be in excellent condition. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that it was probably the best tasting pint of any SN beer I'd ever had, so kudos to the staff for that. I can imagine the place gets uncomfortably busy in the summer, but my mid March, early afternoon visit was very enjoyable and I'll make sure I give this place another try when I'm next in town.

Very small pub. But as they say, "diamonds don't come as big as bricks" and this is a good pub. The staff are friendly and accommodating, making customers welcome. The Spitfire was very well kept and always served with a smile and a chat.
Small pubs do get smokey, it is a fact of life...if you don't like it, visit this pub in July!
Excellent.

I really do get fed up with people claiming that pubs are "VERY smokey", without bothering to qualify their statements : the pub mentioned by tinkholman is very small INDEED (though not quite the smallest in Brighton), but allows smoking - live with it!
There are more pubs and bars in this city of ours than you could visit on a one-a-day basis in less than eighteen months - surely you can find something that pleases you : also, there is a forecourt outside which gives non-smokers PLENTY OF opportunity to experience fresh air and observe the diverse tapestry of life that constitutes B&H Residents walking by.
Disraeli (in a fashion) springs to mind

It's not bad, I suppose! The Shepherd Neame beers are of good quality; 2.50 might sound expensive, but it's par for the course in Brighton. My problem with this pub is that does get VERY smokey. On the plus side, the barstaff are usually OK.

It's a marvellous pub, pretty packed during the day with tourists / shoppers, and food served from 12 until 3. Lovely dishes with plenty of HAM and veggie options too. As it's a Shepherd Neame house, you'll expect the glorious Spitfire, SN Best, Holsten Export, Oranjeboom (Just call it THE BOOM, and they'll know I sent you) along with Guinness, Strongbow and Masterbrew. Not the largest pub in Brighton, but friendly, cosy and some excellent regulars in the evening. Family-run pub with father and son Landlord who are both excellent blokes. Tell them vulga sent you.
