A nice country pub with Old Hooky in good order. The game pudding was v good. Service also good.

We've spent a lovely weekend break at the Sun Inn, hospitality was superb, food was excellent, staff were friendly and the atmosphere was great.
Will be visiting again without doubt.

We used The Sun Inn for a knees up this summer with a group of brewers. There were no complaints about the beer and it was a very choosy crowd, They put on an excellent buffet for us, which although more expensive than the other pubs in the village, was well worth it. The garden is great over the summer and I'd prefer to be out there when the weather's nice as sometimes there are some snooty stalwarts in the bar itself. The landlord tries but isn't always the most sociable but the other staff usually make up for him.

The nice thing about the long days of summer is that you can explore pubs outside your patch. We drove over to Hook Norton mid-week just before the school holidays. I had an excellent pint (well two) with my steak and my friend was very happy with her liver (done to perfection). She also commented that the Chardonny was far better than that served in many pubs. Unfortuneately a couple of negatives have made me reduce my 9 to 6/7 (still deciding). Firstly last time I visited (four years ago) there was a large choice of fresh fish - please bring it back. Also I have to agree with HolbornBoy about the kids. There were two ladies who lunch with their toddlers. One of them seemed to be in the "terrible twos". Madam it is your child not mine - therefore I do not wish to suffer their screaming fits and tantrums. Your child - your responsibility!

This is very far from being a 'lovely country pub'. Do not be deceived by the charming frontage for once you enter you will find another destroyed interior. There is a stone flagged floor, a big brick fireplace from which hangs pots and pans and a beamed ceiling but it's all of recent construction. The place has all the atmosphere of an airport lounge. The customers were those dreadful middle-class types who think it's okay to bring toddlers and babies into pubs. Four pumps serving Hook Norton ales - my pint of Hooky Gold would have been nice but was a degree to warm for my taste. I might have stayed for another pint but the combination of screaming rugrats and self-important air of their parents hastened my departure.

A lovely country pub with an excellent selection of real ales from the Hook Norton brewery plus other guests. The staff were friendly but struggled to understand the orders due to their lack of understanding of the English language. The food was very good if a little on the pricey side.
Has a large function room, patio and garden at rear which we used for a family party.

I'd like to be a regular here as I live in the village BUT however I find the landlord prioritises people at the bar, takes ages to get served and when you do get served the drinks are overpriced and lager is not good. The pub is in a good location and of a good size, its a shame it's being wasted on FOOD ALL THE TIME. It is not a village pub for local people just ones who have lots of money, the atmosphere is very stuck up and not relaxed, such a shame.

This place is an enigma. Beers good (several Hooky's), lagers bad. Food can be hit and miss, fish board can be good. Sadly though the landlord is a complete cock. Very unfriendly, looked at us like we were a piece of s*** when we walked in last time. Some moron keyed my girlfriends car in his car park and when we told him about it he just gave us a 'I couldn't give a ***' look. One of those landlords that only likes local villagers. So, I'll be taking my 120 for a family meal elsewhere and that idiot can shove his pub up his arse.

There's a lot of competition in Hook Norton. So the friendliness of the licensee counts for a lot. And here he rates very low. But that's because we had the temerity to complain that the lunchtime food was mediocre.

Beers great but I prefer the other 2 pubs in Hook Norton as I'm a fish cake and chips bloke and not a sea bass and potato one!

Pleasant central village pub with a good selection of the local Hook Norton ales. Extensive range of high quality bar food as well as a formal restaurant area. Large sunny patio and garden.
