Rose Tavern, Norwichback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Large, relaxed pub that wasn't very busy on Friday night but not totally devoid of atmosphere even if pretty empty. Clientele seemed to be mainly students. Ales on sale were TT Landlord, Purity Gold, Doom Bar, Sharps Atlantic and Oakham's Robber (which was good enough for me to stick with). The May 2008 reviewer was correct in that this is one to include on a pub crawl around the area without necessarily staying here for hours (which is what we did).

affable staff. food is great. ale offerings tasty but fairly consistent; includes landlord and summer lightning. sport and quiz phobes beware.
|
Friendly community local, well worth seeking out. Three of four handpumps on when visited, including a very decent pint of Chalk Hill Bitter.
|
A good pub, nice spacious beer garden.
Excellent quiz on a sunday night, and a student-type quiz on a tuesday.
Only downside is the landlord, who is a bit odd. You'll know what I mean if you've been there.
Good selection of lagers, not much ale-wise, though.
Overall, worth adding to a pub crawl list, but not an all-night pub, really.

good footy and beer pub

Something for everyone. Great value food, reasonable priced ales, sport on one side lounge and dining on the other side. Friendly bar staff and locals to boot. Sometimes can host wayward studenty type nights.

Nice range of 4 real ales, friendly bar staff, excellently placed big screen for the footie. This place wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, but I liked it. One thing though - they need to sort the drains out. To borrow a phrase, when it's been raining, the bar area smells like a turd covered in burnt hair.

Good beer and nice and spacious with a nice garden patio area to sit in when the weather permits.
|
Quite pricey but by far the best place in the area for a lazy sunday afternoon of drinking and eating. Wouldn't bother with during the week.
|
very good selection of 4 real ales, and a bit cheaper than others in the area. good atmosphere with a good mix of locals and students. Kev O'conner DJs "spiced beats and funky grooves" on saturday night, not to be missed but bound to be crowded. nice patio area at rear. just up the hill from unthank road, on trinity street by jenny lind park.

Went there yesterday and they had 1 real ale on, was a nice day so sat out on the patio area, otherwise quite dissapointing

What a pub!
Location: In the 'Golden Triangle' area of Norwich - off Unthank Road.
Beer: Assortment of Ales (normally 4-6), Lagers, Belgian Beers.
Atmosphere: Traditional English/Irish boozer! Landlord is Irish. The place is comfortable, friendly, good music (anything from Morcheeba, to Lemon Jelly, to Drum & Bass, to Soul). DJ on Thursday and Saturdays. Big Screen tv that gets packed out for Football and especially Rugby. Good blend of locals to the area and students. Young & lively.
Believe there is now being food served during the week as well as a Traditional Sunday Roast.
Great music, great barstaff, great people, great pub!
