My partner & I had a meal in here last evening and we were both very impressed with the place. It was very pleasant, clean, & tidy. Toilets (always a good indication) were clean too! The meal was served very quickly. It was Friday Fish Night and we were very impressed at the presentation of the meal. Fish, chips & mushy peas served on a plate covered with greaseproof paper which was printed as a newspaper. A novel idea which we appreciated. The peas were served in a nice little square ceramic dish. It was served quickly and was hot and tasty! My partner enjoyed a glass of real ale called "Moonshine". We loved it and will certainly call there again.

The Shepley Spitfire has recently reopened following a refurbishment. The pub was previously a tenanted operation with a bit of a chequered recent history but is now a managed house, owned by Greene King.
The refurbishment has seen new carpets and furniture giving it a smarter feel, and the room has been effectively divided into three - games room, lounge and dining room.
There are three handpumps for real ale, dispensing Greene King IPA and Old Speckled Hen plus a guest, which is either a Greene King seasonal or something from either Abbeydale or Kelham Island Brewery.
Food is served all day until 9pm and is in the value for money pub favourites category.
The new management team are quite friendly and is on the up.
Being a Greene King pub you shouldn't expect anything too exciting on the beer range or food menu, however the pub is now an excellent local.

went in here the other evening. What a shame it's such a hole now, and an insult to the memory of the Shepley family

My family went here for the last time for Sunday lunch in april 2009, we have been going most Sundays for over 2 years. I was already fed up with then for no longer having a real ale, but stopped going altogether after we were treated very rudely by the chef after a very long delay to our food after a "kitchen problem" - the place is becoming a bit of a dive. - sad it used to be quite good.

On the strength of our last visit last year we took the family out for a meal and a few drinks. Completely amazed at the turn around. The staff were extremely rude and a man with a laptop at the end of the bar (which i believe to be the manager) totally ignored us and made us feel extreemly unwelcome so we left. Wont be going back!
