user reviews of the Unthank Arms, Norwich

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Definitely agree with the last reviewer - Woodfordes Wherry, Doom Bar and Adnams Broadside were the 3 handpulls on sale on Friday night which is hardly an inspiring range. I tried the Doom Bar which was acceptable. Music was turned up too loud in a half empty pub. Nice (what I presume are) fly screens on the sash windows for those who admire the design of Victorian pubs.

This pub is informally split between a bar area and a restaurant area, offering 3 real ales. I enjoyed my visit, had a 2 course meal and a few pints of Adnams. I would certainly return.
More variety on the 3 real ales would have made it more interesting.
Wish I had a pub like this near my house. Give it a try.

Love this place. Set just off Unthank Road and a stonesthrow from the city it's a welcome stop-off watering hole on my way home from work. The beer garden's lovely in the sunshine and the staff are a friendly bunch.

I've been in here many times over the last ten years or so and have been increasingly dissapointed every time. The ale is rubbish, the punters in the main (inaccurately) think they're trendy and/or hard and have a corresponding bad attitude, the ale is rubbish and well over-priced. The restaurant upstairs used to be ok but has become increasingly poncey, last time I went my meat (liver) was so bitter that I complained about food for possibly the first time ever; they refused to even try it and it took me a while to pursuade them that I wasn't paying for it, no apology. I haven't eaten there since. Its a shame; the location is great, the garden is huge and the interior is quite nice with big windows, like an old fashioned London pub. A poor 4/10, could do much better.

Visited recently with some old school chums and whilst the food was OK, being a real ale fanatic, I have to say that the quality of the real ales were extemely poor (London Pride, Coyote and House Bitter). If you are looking for a meal without woorying about the ale then it is worth a visit but if you are going for the ale only then seek an alternative pub.

The Unthank Bitter is courage best! thank god i asked, they only had one decent real ale on draught apart from that, agree with the pretentious comment above, think this pub is more food orientated than beer

Great pub with fantastic food. I had saudage and mash, normally this arrives in other pubs iwth no slad and no veg, swede, carrots, looks and courgettes., a gret meal, 10 a fair price.

Trendy if a little pretentious but well worth putting on your golden triangle pub crawl list

Well worth a visit. Try their own Unthank Bitter.
