im a landlord of another pub a cpl of miles away when i do get a day off i always come here to sample the real ales usually 4 or 5 different ones. nice friendly staff. what i like best this pub is bow CHEAPER than wetherspoons which makes me chuckle

Been going here since it reopened last year with a tasteful refurbishment. The place is clean and uncluttered; the staff are polite, friendly and welcoming whether it's your first time in or you are a regular. There is a policy of no hats or swearing which makes for a nice atmosphere.
As you enter you are presented with an L shaped room with a few comy sofas, stools and bench seating with a small restaraunt area just past the bar. The food is excellent and reasonably priced.
The bar is on the left and has 8 handpull pumps of which 6 are usually in use at any one time. The cask ale selection is good, offering Bass as a permanent ale, whilst the others are occupied by ales both regional and local. Typically you will find guest ales from Titanic, Beartown, Slaters, Alton and Coachmakers to name but a few that have been on recently. From the quality of the beer served it is obvious that the landlord, Leon, cares about his cask ales. Highly recommemded for a visit.

Recently discovered this gem. The d�cor and layout lent itself to a relaxed and pleasant evening. The staff and clientele were friendly and the toilets clean. The background music added to the ambiance and thankfully did not hinder conversation.
Its great to find a pub that varies its real ale barrel by barrel, and here a rotating selection of real ales are served, several from local breweries during my visit. The landlord was obviously a real ale enthusiast and offered tasters of the ale. As a regular visitor to The Star Inn Bath, I know a good pint of Bass when I see it and this was superb.
Hanley appears a quiet place and the weather�s not the best, so this pub was a ray of sunshine for this beer lover.
Definitely recommended if you ever find yourself in the Potteries..

This pub is a brilliant place to go for real ales with 8 hand pumps and also serve rather good food. I have never received a bad pint. Infact it is an excellent pint of Bass there which i believe they have perminently. The place is very clean and the staff are allways freindly and pollite. I recomend it!

Well, its a long time since the comment below and things have definitely improved in the intervening 6 years. With the probable sad demise of the Coachmakers, an alternate pint was sought on a Sunday afternoon and this establishment comes close by. A large corner house with a big L-shaped room appears to have been refurbished recently and is spotlessly clean and tidy. The toilets, whilst not absolutely perfect in upkeep, are certainly clean and fresh. Dozens of pump clips above the bar suggest that they have been dispensing good real ale for some time and this visit did not disappoint, with local brews such as Titanic Steerage, Beartown Bearskinful and the extraordinary Coach house Toffee on offer from the friendly landlady. It waqs deserted during our viasit, but nonetheless offers an excellent beer experience.

The Market tavern is set between two big pubs a wetherspoons and a hogshead. It is a quaint little boozer and most of it's customers are regulars in there. The staff are quiet but keep busy. The toilets are attrocious but you can see that the cleaners do their best with the facilities. Blokes unless absolutely desperate I wouldn't recommend using them as you are likely to have you last meal revisit you.
Good pub to try on thursdays as they have offers of cheap pints and bottles & some spirits too. but never going to compete with wetherspoons prices. Not the most glamourous pub in town but pleasant enough.
