Visited today for the first time, for Sunday lunch. Very impressive. Freshly cooked food at average pub prices, friendly and attentive service, and my meal was delicious, although, as with so many pubs/restaurants these days, there was TOO MUCH! We have become Americanised in our portions. Was asked 5 times if everything was OK, which is slightly overdoing it and I could have done without the piped (early nineties) pop music, but overall, a very pleasant experience.

Pretty-much as richeymole left it in 2013 I think.
My maiden visit was finally made to this tucked-away village boozer for a quiet pint on Saturday night, after too many years saying I must try it. I wasn't blown away, but then again didn't expect to be. All-told it was a comfortable, deceptively spacious pub, with bars upfront and a long corridor at the rear leading to generous provision for eaters - sadly I assume that food must be king now in order for it to survive. That said, drinkers were about and the usual bar fare was offered, including three cask ales, none of which were novel but the St Austell Tribute sampled was well-kept.
I received a warm welcome from one of the bar staff (landlady?) who was very chatty and advised it was quieter than usual owing to a big blow-out the night before where apparently locals had partied rather hard to the sound of a live band. Good on them, I thought. Clearly doing decent business.
Can't comment on food, other than to say the proprietors of the Royal Oak at Rusper visited the Half Moon a couple of years back and gave its victuals a ringing endorsement - praise indeed! Menu looked reasonable, so might be worth a punt in the not-too-distant.
A charming local lady who I can't believe was on her own was very friendly at my side of the bar, but alas I had to drink-up and drive back before I could find out more - shame, but just nice to be noticed these days!
Give it a go folks and see what you think.

Seems a friendly pub with chatty staff and a comfortable, fairly spacious interior. Three ales available - include some very pleasant Adnams Lighthouse. Just a fleeting pint, but would call in again.

Good food The staff were all friendly and attentive Few cask ale but they was very good (TEA and Tribute). Lovely location if you cold ignore the noise from Gatwick airport.

Went for a meal here last week, I am fairly critical about food but I could not fault the meal that was presented to us. The staff were all friendly and attentive, a thoroughly delightful evening and one I would recommend to anyone.

Good food freshly prepared, friendly staff and reasonable selection of real ale. Great for wintry lunchtimes as they have a fire and very good bar meals. Restaurant can get busy at weekends so ought to book.

Nice atmosphere, a bit olde worlde, better than the other pubs in the village.

First visit to this nice little pub.
The place is actually much bigger than it looks from the outside and has a good courtyard style garden.
Can't comment on the quality of the beers as I dived straight in for the Addlestones Cloudy cider which was very good. Did not have the food but the menu did look good with some interesting dishes and not your standard "pub grub" type of approach.
Will certainly be visiting again whwn I have more time than just the one pint.

Been to this pub 3 times recently and the food is excellent, hot and served very quickly. very 'cosy' restaurant. comfortable bar. Friendly staff

I agree totally with jrc83. Been to this pub twice this year and both food and service is excellent! Will definitely be going back when I can.

Great little find. Lovely staff, lovely food. Under new management and they have turned the pub around. Recommended

Before it closed this pub had nil atmosphere - now it's closed.

What a shame, made a special trip for a friday lunch time drink just based on the lovely external apearance, and what a disapointment inside. It has been totally gutted of any personality even moved table about four times hoping it was just our seating location, thankfully there was a couple of locals at the bar and the service was pretty good.

This pub has really started to come to life. It gets better everytime I visit. Great food and super service. Thank You!!

This is and has always been a great pub! The management now have a new Front of House Team who seem to have brought a new vitality to the place. Still promoting good quality Food which is sourced locally; it's a pub that ticks all the right boxes in my book.

Brilliant friendly pub with excellent food. Really surprised with comments made by mhartes as the last thing this pub looks like is Harvester even so some Harvesters are really good so no shame there. Having read his/her other reviews it seems that Berni inns (haven't existed for many years) and Chavs are everywhere and spoil their enjoyment!! Obviously people wth common accents in pubs with patterned carpets do not make a bad place. Do not be put off by negative reviews as we love this pub and all that eat/drink in it!! Sham on you mhartes.

It's a shame... this pub looks so promising from the outside, in a nice little village. Unfortunately they have gutted the inside and made it look a bit like a Harvester. Beige walls, sofas and farm equipment.. not really a pub anymore, just a bar/restaurant. I'm sure the food is better than a Harvester though. I last went to this pub about 7 years ago, it was much better then. Apparently this is a part of a chain, I hope they haven't done the same to the other pubs!!

We have friends who live nearby and make it a point of dining at the Half Moon whenever we visit. We have had 3 fantastic meals with great food, drink and service. Parking can be a bit of a pain but keep circling - it is worth it ! If you haven't been you should give it a go - You will not be disappointed.

This is truly one of Surrey's besdt kept secrets! Great ale & wine and an excellent menu with plenty of choice, variety and flavours. It was refurbished in December 2005 and has been so brilliantly restored and revitalised. Definately one of the best pubs in the area.
|
If you're staying at the Russ Hill hotel ready for your early morning departure from Gatwick, make sure you arrive early enough to visit this pub. It's 10 times better than the overcrowded bar at the hotel and the food simply cannot be compared.
The beer, food and pub are excellent.

What a Super Pub! We enjoyed great food and wine here on a recent visit to friends in nearby Horley. Well done to the Restaurant and Kitchen staff for making our evening really delightful!

Very well extended with good food. All areas are accessible to the disabled. Worth a visit.

This is a very quant village pub which has recently been taken over by new licencees. The original parts of the pub date back to the 1050AD and is swarming with charm and history. It is located next to the St Nicolas Church. The new licencees are currently waiting for a decision from the local planning department to update and refurbish the facility so that a more substantial food offer can be introduced. The Half Moon was recently given a glowing report in the CAMRA news.
