top, top place for a pint and lunch. do a great fish finger sandwitch and the beer is good and not too expensive (it is in town after all!)
regular haunt for me and my colleagues. staff friendly, upstairs dining room relaxed and easy to enjoy a nice lunch without too much interuptions.
downstairs more lively but atmosphere always good.
def one to see, a must visit

Wow what a great pub along with brill staff, A+ on the ladies toilets they're the best (Ladies called Helen will especially like them). A great venue to start the night if you're going to something like a restaurant launch around the corner at Saddlers

The best pint of Bombardier i have had in a good while. And the staff couldn't have done enough for us. Toilets were a little on the dodgy side but a second pint of the good stuff put that right. Wasn't overly impressed with our sandwiches, when bread is the main ingredient then it should be super fresh, ours were a bit crispy. Very good beer though Sebby

Took the Wife shopping on our London visit (Bond Street) with the expressed deal that we also get a drink or two afterwards. Found this place by accident (proximity) and LOVED IT! Freindly folks behind the bar, a few real ales and some good ciders, decent pub grub. Lots of suits and business people meeting after work, but the atmosphere was quite jubilant. Again, the staff WERE FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL despite the reviews I have read.

Absolutely horrible evening experienced here a few nights back. Staff were rude, blunt, and obviously did not want to be there at all. One helpfully swore at me when I had the audacity to ask where the toilets were.
For some reason, we then decided to order food. Firstly, it took almost an hour to arrive and then the lady who brought it over huffed and stormed off when I asked for ketchup. I had the cod and chips and it may of been the worst tenner i've spent in my life, not sure what was going on in my head when I thought this was a reasonable deal but the standard was that awful that it was barely worth 50p let alone that much. The only reason they can charge those sort of disgraceful prices is that the place is packed with American tourists who are obviously quite unaware they are paying way over the odds for a disgusting excuse of traditional English cuisine.
The place emptied out as soon as the football finished, which is obviously the only reason anyone who's not a tourist feels the need to go in there.
Someone twice tried to take my half-finished pint from the table before I was anywhere near finishing it and both times they looked like i'd insulted their mothers when I had the nerve to say "I'm still drinking that"
Would never go anywhere near the place ever again. Puts me in a bad mood just thinking about it. Went in a pub with similar decor last night and had to leave immediately because it reminded me of this sorry excuse for a pub.

Visited here again yesterday, the toilets have been sorted and the three girls working through the busy football match were amazing, helpful and so friendly. Once again i WILL be coming back,
|
Visted this pub yesterday and was there from 5.30pm until 10pm. Ladies loos were terrible. Two cubicles - in one the loo had a broken seat which was lying on the floor and the other had no loo roll. Obviously not checked over the time that I was there as they remained in this state for the duration. Apparently the Gents were ok.

I am suprised by the last review of this pub as generally everyone else whos reviewed has spoken favourably about it. Two nights ago I want there really good location and a cracking atmosphere. The staff are great and the two girls working were obviously under pressure as it was really busy, but they were both polite and I recieved good service. I've never been here before but I will come back, such a lovely place.

We had a terrible night here last night.
It's with a heavy heart that I write this because I've been here before and had a good time in what is a lovely looking pub. But the management should be ashamed of how their staff acted yesterday.
We arrived while the football was on the TV. I was stood at the bar waiting to give my mate a hand with beers. Playing to a bunch of blokes watching the footy, the barman started giving me sarcastic comments about not having a beer. I only been in there 30 seconds and was helping my mate. Not a big deal but you don't expect a lot of sh*t when you've just arrived and you're about to spend money.
The pub advertises how it serves food all day. When we tried to get food at 7pm (on a Saturday), we were told the kitchen was closed, with a shrug of the shoulders.
We spent about 20 on a round and asked for a glass of water. The barwoman said she couldn't give us water because the 'tap was broken'. I said they were legally obliged to give us water. She tutted. We got our drinks and asked if there was a chance we could get water. She said she would have to get some from upstairs. Only after serving the next customer. About half an hour later, the charming barman came up with water, looking like we'd insulted him.
My girlfriend got drinks. Unknown to her, the barman undercharged her. So came upstairs demanding more money off her. Not asking. Or apologising for his mistake. But demanding as if she'd tried to trick him.
After the footy finished, the pub cleared. At 9pm there must have been only about 15 people in there. Saturday night near Oxford St. No surprise people don't want to drink there. So rude. Disgraceful.

Nice corner pub which sells Bombardier among other beers, kept nicely, the staff are friendly and the atmosphere is unpretentious. Downstairs is pubby and upstairs has leather couches but in a 'clubland' sort of way rather than 'gastropub' which it isn't. I'd go back for the beer and the little blonde barmaid. It's one of those pubs that are tucked away sufficiently far from the souk of Oxford Street that it doesn't get full of tourists.

The Barley Mow is in a lovely part of Mayfair, it is nice and clean and all the staff bar one are english!!! The manageress has got sky back which is great and the beers are all kept in good nick. The food was a good portion and tasted nice, and not so expensive as in other Mayfair pubs. Would defo go back again.
|
Popped in for a quickie before a dinner in nearby Brook Street. Pleasant enough pub with normal people obviously in after work (no oiks!). My pint of Bombardier was in excellent nick and I wouldn't hesitate to return.
|
I like the Barley Mow - despite the close proximity to vile Oxford St it attracts a reasonable crowd and you can drink outside without being choked by carbon monoxide.
Can't comment on the food as didn't eat
|
nice place for a drink after work, full of suits usually. Wouldn't want to spend all night settled in here though. Often smells of vinegar strangely.
|
An excellent pub, nice staff and good food !!
|
The Welsh chap the works behind the bar is definitely a homosexual.
|
GENTS!!!!!!!!!!
Beware the hand dryers!
|
This is a nice pub but the food is, sadly, atrocious. If you want the worst "mushroom risotto" available to humanity, then your search is over.
|
I've been back a few times now since the refurbishment and while there's still no footie, the Mow is well worth a visit for a drink or something to eat. The food is excellent and the whole place is far brighter and cleaner than it ever was before. Sky News is always on in the background... now if only they had the sports channels back I'd be in heaven!
|
This pub has become a firm favourite for a beer after work. It's a bit of the beaten track so isnt swarmed with dull/boarish suits and there always seems to be plenty of room. Decent beer, ambient decor and decent service, thumbs up.

Currently closed for refurbishment, which includes the removal of SKY TV and therefore most of its customer base.
RIP Barley Mow.

I don't think I really gave the place a fair review in my last posting...
After ploughing through the tourists at 2pm on a Saturday afternoon I was more than pleased to find a spare table here! Had a really good afternoon - pleasant staff and customers - and were else in the area can you get a double gin & tonic for 3.60? Didn't eat here myself but the food being served looked good. I will try and make this one of my regulars when in the area.
|
Excellent place. Good beer well kept, pretty quiet even at peak times. Food OK rather than meteoric! Football matters to these people - there is a display of match balls on the rear counter - but as long as you can foresee oikish soccer moron evenings, a good place for a cheery time! Quieter room upstairs as well.
|
Went on a saturday afternoon a couple of weeks ago - managed to get a table outside and the beer was not that badly priced considering where it's located.
Pleasant enough.
|
sean seen the vid of john & mary at the party, where have they moved to cheers

I have frequented this Ale House on many, many occasions, mostly with my friend Guy, who, despite being from New Zealand, is a very nice chap.
It is a great pub, so the beer is a bit on the expensive side? after 5 or 6 pints, who cares????
The Beer itself is always 1st class and the food is very nice too, and 2 main courses for 6.99 it is an ideal place to take the missus for a romantic meal, or, if you are a fat pig, you can eat the two meals yourself.
The toilets are very clean, there are two urinals for number ones, and one cubile for number two's...
Not sure what is in the ladies as they wouldn't let me in there to have a look!!!
The upstairs seating area is very nice, kind of reminds me of my nans living room, except it has more tables and chairs & lots of people i don't know!!!!
There is also outside seating, Sky TV and big Chalkboards normally advertising when Newcastle United are next playing. John (The Landlord) for some reason supports them!!!!!
My only complaint I have with this pub, happens to involve John, and that is..... When he is serving behind the bar and pouring a cask ale, he does it in a rather effeminate manner!!!
Otherwise, love the place
|
Decent sidestreet pub with good quality beer. Mix of traditional and modern dcor. Reasonably busy on a Saturday afternoon. Obviously keen on hygiene if the mountain of disinfectant chunks in the urinals is anything to go by. Pricey beer but that goes with the territory. Id come back again.
|
The ONLY place to watch Newcastle Utd games in London. Great atmosphere, brilliant bar staff and good beer/food. Not too touristy either, as it's slightly off the main road.
|
A lovely pub. Central enough to be handy, but off the beaten track enough to avoid tourists. Very friendly staff, great landlady and landlord, and very well kept beer - Green King IPA and a smashing pint of Pedigree. Always has the footy on, but the lads who come to watch it are friendly, and non footy fans need not shy away. The best pub in London to watch Newcastle games, without a doubt!
|
nice, classic english boozer. mainly suits, a couple of tourists during the week. not been there on a weekend. nice pint of guinness too.
|
Great Beers, brilliant and helpful staff. Nice quiet bolt hole from the retail nightmare of Bond street.
|
One of my nice little cozy pubs while I lived in London. Still has the charm and atmosphere. Never had the food, but the staff have always been friendly since I have been going there for the past 20 odd years.
