Went in to watch Scotland against South Africa, a once in a,lifetime match. Scotland with a real chance to knock South Africa out of the world cup on home soil. Huge match.
Managed to get a seat in front of the big screen, the view was obstructed because the management hadn't bothered to close down the pool table, located directly in front of the screen. So we had the lights from the table bleeding down the screen, and a bunch of idiots enjoying standing in front of the game while playing pool, badly, but hay ho we can still watch and hear the match.
They eventually left and we had an un-obstructed view. For about five minutes.
They turned the rugby off in favour of some overpaid foreigners running around screaming about their nail varnish being chipped. Chelsea I think they are called.
I urge all rugby supporters to boycott this pub. If they cannot be bothered to support the world cup on home soil, why should we support them?

As you will see, the previous review was left three years ago!
I visited on a Friday evening, one nameless "house bitter" pump and one Greene King IPA, hardly a beer officianados paradise.
Sky Sports News on the various tv's with pretty loud music playing in the background, very much a younger persons place.... I'm the advanced age of 45!
I would hazard a guess that there has been a change of manager / direction since the previous postings!

The Festing was the first pub we found in Southsea when we moved to Portsmouth 2 years ago from Newcastle and never found a better one. You can relax and enjoy a drink whilst chatting to people. Its a pub which has something for everyone and has a great mix of people. You will always be greeted by a friendly smile from one of the lovely bar staff or Matt the manager. Best Pub Ever! x

Never have greatness ever been joined in holy matrimony but, alas, this happened one jolly evening as I was greeted by pleasant and stonking individuals who were the Festing bar staff. I've been to many gin joints in all the towns in all the world and never have I seen as mighty fine example of a place such as the Festing.
The Festing helps forget your worries and is a place where everyone knows your name.

Ive been drinking for many a year now and have never to the point of walking through the doors to heaven (The Festing), have been greeted with such open arms and encharting smiles , when ever i need/want a drink its there no question asked no need unattended. A great many times have been enjoyed when drinking with the likes of JOBAR and his crew and a many a friendly rivalry have been made with the likes of the profs , with all the capdivating staff and encharting pundits of the alcholic world ive never been more at home away from home then taking a seat at the finest pub ive ever had the delight of steping into both feet forward and wallet open to enjoy ever sip of the finest high quality tasting bevarage. Put it simply Festing equals a great night and even better memories.

The Festing is a delightful and fine establishment, the staff are very friendly and give you table service, something you don't see much in those fancy wine bars. The pub manager Matt has worked incredibly hard to change the image of pub from a hard mans pub to a warm and inviting free house. Harry serves up one of the best bacon and chicken panini in the world. They also have 3D TV's for when the big sporting events are on. On Sunday they have a great pub quiz hosted by Alex and he is very entertaining and warm welcoming. Unfortunity team Jobar always turn up and win, so if you want a challenge I recommend you come down for 8pm on Sunday's. The facilities that they provide are great and the toilets are exquisite and always clean, a fine place to park your bum. The pub also have live music and they have a large music venue upstairs called the bird cage. If you are driving they have plenty of parking for all your needs. Another bonus with the festing is you are near all the curry houses and for breakfast you can dine in Mumms cafe to cure the biggest hangover. All I can say is what a fine pub.

I've not been going to the festing long, unless you class quite a few years as long. Anyhow I've never been to an establishment as pleasing on the eyes and taste buds as our the high fine quality staff that work there. With a non-stop desire to please and tend to every waking drunk man's need , they never stop to keep them drinks a flowing and the good times a pouring, many a great person including the likes of team JOBAR add to the amazing atmosphere and wonderful drunk person paradise that is the FESTING.

Shocking!! Greene king pub with terrible beer and locals.
|
My buddies local and thats the only reason I use it to be honest - beer not great, prices a bit high and the pub is pretty scruffy - popular though so i dont see any money being spent on it any time soon - a bit overrated.

Bring back nick to get all the idiots out of the pub again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
This is my local. Never knew it before but do know that the staff are friendly ... food is good value... always play all major footie & rugby matches on. Nice clean furniture & clean lines for the beer...
Only thing I hate!!!! Pay by song jukeboxes! GRRR... I would rather the radio - at least then when the song ends its not a dreadful silence... x
|
what a ####hole, no real ale, no atmosphere (half)full of idiots swigging alcopops from the bottle, avoid like the plague
|
Coming down soon for a stag do and will be popping in here no doubt. See you soon

Well Done Greeneking...... You've made the Festing so much better. Now a more trendy pub, I'm not ashamed to say it's my local. Also, they give away drinks on Mondays with a game called higher or lower ( I think )
And finally a DECENT DJ on a Saturday night!
Nick.... keep up the good work mate!

Recently renovated, now more wine bar than pub, way too light even in the darkest of days. What ever happened to the old Festing??
|
Oh my god, just found out today that Alex ( the short munchinkin bloke ) is leaving!

He was sooo sweet!! Won't be the same without you.
I'm sure he'll be back, like everyone else!
Good luck in whatever you are doing Alex and pop in for a drink one night!

Pompey fans might get a kick out of knowing the the landlord of the pub back in the 50's was Jimmy Allen. He captained Pompey in the 1934 cup final

Well after such a great revamp, it's totally changed!!! FOR THE BETTER!
If ya fancy just a quiet beer, its brilliant place! If ya fancy a weekend which will rock ya, pop in!
saturday nights, usually have a DJ... and during the day you have the ever outgoing Alex.
Then on sundays, it's great for a wind down pint! and in the evenings you have the luscious Linda with great conversation. Always a service with a smile.

Great pub with superb atmosphere and , with the exception of one barmaid (told you I'd mention you Mel!! - only joking, of course....), friendly and quick serving staff. A home away from home!!

The pub is OK, but the manager is very rude. After calling out for drinking up time at 11.10 he kept coming every 20 seconds telling us to drink up, and got very offensive few minutes later.

A real locals feel and great starting point for night out!

You know what I mean when I say its a brilliant 'all dayer' boozer. The guvnor loves his football and if theres a game being played, it will be shown down the festing, no question. Good pool table, blinding dukebox (Ossies Dream) and all round quality pub for a midday session, a couple of quick jars, a starting gaff on your way into town, or a whole evening. There's a bookies next door and the pub does cashback: dangerous! Only down side is the stench from the rubyhouse next door. 'Ave it!
