Westford Inn, North Uistback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Cracking pub, a friendly welcome and two real ales on from Skye Brewery, in excellent condition. Recently re-opened the pub is unspoilt with stonework, nice furniture and warm and cosy with a log burner. A real respite from the wild weather up here on the isles. Think it now opens 11-11 and will do food in the new year.

Fantastic pub - I couldn't recognise it from the other reviews on here which is why I've registered. Visit in May/June 2012 when there were 2 or 3 ales on at any one time, all Isle of Skye, and a big range of bottles from further afield. Beer in excellent nick all the way through.
It was busy nearly every night we were in (9 nights over the 2 weeks), with a mix of locals and visitors, and lots of chat between the different customers.
Food menu is short but all home cooked - we ate in there 3 times and it was excellent every time.
I recommend to anyone - lovely pub.

I'd call myself a regular at the westford but these days it isn't open often enough to justify the use of the word! With the demise of the Carinish Inn it's the only pub within miles. It's been closed for the past couple of weeks at what is the height of the tourist season. The owners disappear on a regular basis, closing the pub as and when they want - surely their licence stipulates that they have to keep the place open??? This could and should be a great pub but the owners don't appear to give a monkeys. In fact, they go out of their way to discourage people from returning. They are very disparaging about tourists and they don't even provide any bar food, beyond crisps and nuts. The only good thing I can say about the place is that they serve real ale but they run out all too often which is inexcusable when the place is like a morgue. This place needs to be rescued before the owners run it into the ground. Help!

Ah Westford Inn, the "old" Westford in prior to 2008 was a majestical place, somewhere where you could go after a hard day's graft and have a nice cold beer and talk to a number of locals about everyday life. Then at weekends you'd be in a pub packed full of happy people with live music and awesome craic.
Unfortunately these days the pub is rarely open and was even shut on the day of the North Uist games, a day where the pub took in the most money for the year.
This is such a shame as this pub was a central hub for the Uist folk, a way of life.
It's quite upsetting to travel to Uist for a few days to enjoy the Wesford atmosphere only to find it shut for the full week.
As someone originally from the Island it's bad enough for me that it's never open. How about the poor people that live on the Island and can't go to their local as it's never open.
They say change is good. Well this is one change that is quite frankly rotten.

Uistman is right--the lady in front of house is too ready to complain about things--too many campervans, only one person in the kitchen--summer trade has been disappointing--not enough trade to justify employing a part-timer and so on. Its a pity, as when we visited in May it was very busy and cheerful with three pumps of Isle of Skye beer on. Last Sunday we were the only customers and the one cask of Skye ran out. There is a sad sense of defeatism and it should be a thriving pub as there is only the Lochmaddy Hotel in the whole of North Uist as competitiion. Their home-cooked food menu is sensibly limited and very reasonably priced, too. I do hope they cheer up and think positively as its a grand wee pub and deserves to flourish.

This used to be a fantastic pub which was mobbed of a weekend. Sadly this is no longer the case, live music seems to be a thing of the past here and the punters are voting with their feet by taking their custom elsewhere even going as far as Benbecula to find a bit of craic. The pub doesn't open its doors till 5 most days and there has even been cases of it being closed completely whilst the owners holiday!!!
Unfortunately a case of a great wee pub on the wane and in desperate need of some fresh ideas or even blood at the helm.

A serendipitously-found pub in a beautiful location off the beaten track. Opens at 5pm on weekdays ( had to wait outside from 4.15, but was thirsty and Lochmaddy Hotel was 10 miles distant ). Lovely pint of Hebridean Gold, the cheapest pint - by far - I encountered in the Western Isles. Can't comment on clientele ( none about when there ), but would heartily recommend this pub run by English incomers Elizabeth and Alistair, and hope I spelt the latter's name correctly.

Visited over Easter 2008. Excellent pub, and would thoroughly recommend to anyone visiting the isles. It's a bit easy to miss the fact that it's a pub at the moment (the pub sign will apparently be going up soon), but it's the strangely shaped building you can see for a couple of miles in each direction - remember that and you won't miss it.
They had 2 ales on, both from Isle of Skye brewery, Red Cuillin and Westford Ale. Both in excellent nick while we were there.
The menu is short, but the quality more than makes up for it - all home cooked.
Very friendly staff and punters.

A very cosy friendly old fashioned pub, with great atmosphere (especially when there is live music). Very popular during the summer months.
