Unicorn Hotel, Gunthorpeback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Very slow service, no-one came to our table, we had to go to the bar to ask for anything, food or drinks. Overpriced food below standard and not a lot of it.

The first impression this pub /restaurant / hotel makes is the size of it. There are large car parks both front and back, some tables on a terrace out the front (with a river view), more tables and a childrens play area out the back. There are even some tables beyond the car p ark by the river, but I�m not sure if those are actually anything to do with the pub, or not. And the first thing the strikes you when entering the building from the rear is a sign saying �maximum occupancy 350 persons� !!
Inside these are all sorts of little dining areas, but in a plush carpeted sort of way. We sat at a circular table in the middle that was somewhat dimly lit, and we had to climb off the ground to reach the seats.
Previous posters have complained about the attitude of the staff and management, but we had no such problems. Indeed, when seeing we were a large party (7), they voluntarily approached us to take our drinks order.
Nor was there any problem with the quality of the food � though complaints about the prices are justified ! I had a �Beef and Stilton Crockpot�, which was very nice, but was only really a glorified �big soup� !
There were 4 beers on tap. I had the Wychwood Hobgoblin which was reasonable. I think it is a Marstons run establishment, because there was a (genuinely interesting) �history of brewing� exhibit with a lot of very old Marstons paraphernalia.
Incidentally, unlike many similarly named pubs, this place is actually a genuine Hotel as well. I�m not sure how many rooms they have or what they are like.
Not really my cup of tea � but I can see why people with young families might like it. 6/10

A great setting for a pub/hotel, idylic on a summers evening watching the river go by, bedrooms are nice but overpriced, the cooked breakfast was almost inedible... as the other scribe states the beer is indeed terrible, the waiting service on the food side is average, the food overpriced and mediocre, the manageress is about as cheerful as a pitbull with a thorn in its paw ! the barstaff are not welcoming whatsoever. Overall poor.

Went to this pub/restaurant recently for beer and a meal. Had not been to this pub for quite sometime, so was surprised to see that in had been refurbished inside. However, despite the redecoration the beer was poor, service was even worse and the food was dreadful. We ordered our food and waited 45 mins before a waiter advised us that they had run out of plain chicken for one of the meals (a hot chicken and bacon salad), but they could put a piece of barbecued chicken with it instead! We ended up waiting over an hour for our meals. One meal was inedible, the chicken salad was not hot and the burger on a third meal was cold!
Eventually, because two of the meals had been mostly eaten I felt compelled to at least pay for these and told the waitress as such. The waitress called the manageress who was the most arrogant, surly and conceited woman I have had the misfortune to meet. She told me, in rather base language, to keep my money as they didn't want it or my custom in the pub again.
Needless to say, they WILL NOT be getting my custom again. In fact I will never enter this establishment again and I urge anyone else thinking of going here to go somewhere/anywhere else!!

Food used to be decent, however, we were very disappointed with the food, service and surly swearing staff on most recent visit.

Fantastic setting. Rooms a bit overpriced but a great view of the river. Food better than average and the beer is interesting !

Friendly pub, reasonable beer. Accommodation for dirty weekends. Large car park opposite but there appears to be charging or restricitons during the day. Car park also at rear. Bikers meet here regularly in the evening. Immediately sited on Gunthorpe bridge at River Trent.
