when I was a lad we had pubs round here, The Red Lion, Horse and Groom, The Hercules, this was the Pat(spanish patriot)now it sounds like a zoo with horses, camels and walrus

We visited this place for the first time last night for friends leaving drinks. Everything about the place was acceptable for a mellow Thursday night drinking session, not too busy, groovy tunes (not too loud) and comfortable couches. The only thing that let this place down was the food, we spotted some menus on the table that offered some really nice sounding gastro style winter grub at very cheap prices (seemed to good to be true) Once we reached the bar to order we were sadly informed that the only food they were doing was warm snacks...we ordered the prawns and the chicken platter.....the only way to describe it was that it was... Absolutely filthy! Not sure why they would want to server this kind of muck to punters... Chef, pull your finger out!!

terrible dj plays deafening music most nights, pair this with a stupid yank barman trying to be funny and you're in for a long night. nice sofas, though.
|
Remember this when it was the Spanish patriot (when it wasn't a bad pub with a pool table towards the back). Went in their once when it was the Ruby, and was severly disappointed. Might have to revisit it now its changed again.
|
Now called Lounge 54. A nice late venue.
|
Yeah and some of these one review merchants post comments under different names just minutes apart expressing the same view with some blatantly fake back story so they look like different people
see the fitzroy taven in fitzrovia for perhaps the best example

I'm not alone in getting increasingly suspicious of one review merchants (King and Keys, Fleet Street's an amusing example). Here, I'll wager this TomDebenham works for Ruby Group, probably a junior in marketing. And that he's been told by his pleb bosses to 'make it clear that this is no longer part of the Ruby chain'. Who cares? Not us mate. We're punters. The Ruby lounge was shit when it was part of whatever it was part of. And guess what, the new Ruby Lounge is still about as inviting as an STD clinic.
Now, leaving aside all the above, can we please have the Spanish Patriot back? With Linda the Irish landlady.

just as tomdebenham has said its changed hands - personally, thought the atmosphere was dull, bar dirty and bar staff were slow and prices expensive. Watch out for how the charge vodka redbull - as they don't actually give you what is left in the can they put it in the fridge and use for the next person.... at 5.50 a go think that is a little stingy....
|
This place has been sold and is no longer part of the ruby group. whatever your experience of the venue, good or atrocious, please do not confuse it as part of the ruby group
|
Went there on a friday. Great DJ's and great service.
|
This pub is no longer a ruby lounge. It has been bought by someone new, much to the dissappointment of many in the area. A shame but lets hope the new guy is as good as the ruby guys.

Shocking staff. The kind that should really be doing something else for a living. Seem to think its okay to close at 11pm (or whenever they've had enough) The barman got halfway through serving our round and then went to read the paper with his mate. We had to remind him he was actually serving us. Wont be going back in a hurry.

I loved this place when it was the Spanish Patriot - or Spanish Parrot as we knew it. A real spit and sawdust pub, with the most fantastic manager called Linda.
Watched Beckham score that wonderful free kick against Greece in the Parrot, also the awful footage of September the 11th in 2001. Once I even played for the pool side when Linda was short of players - even though I live 65 miles away and am crap at pool. I lost my game of course but Linda was very kind.
My heart sank when it all changed. It was a bit like that episode in the ghastly series Frasier when he gets rid of his dad's chair. So many experiences, so many great nights, so heartbreaking that it is now the horrible, horrible Ruby Skank or whatever it is.
Oh Linda and the Spanish Parrot. What happened to you?

Very much a young person's bar 18-25. Students, cocktails and a complete lack of any quality beers.
|
I've recently moved to the Waterloo area and have struggled to find a pub/bar that's good. Ended up in here last weekend however and I was pleasantly surprised. Good choice of drinks and good tunes. Closes at 11pm though.

I went on a Friday evening for a friend's birthday and it was cool. we were there from 530 and had two sofas reserved for us and they have some cool cocktails, I sat on the passionfruit one all night. I found the staff happy to help and courteous and it is a nice venue with comfortable chairs.

Only been on Sunday evenings, but far from being rude the staff (especially the tall bald one my girlfriend fell in lust for) have been friendly as any in London. Good pint of Guinness an'all.

Ruby Lounge is fine - it has a specific market and serves it well. Nice interior, good music and relaxed atmosphere. Never noticed bar staff being rude maybe only if you are a stray 'suit' you'd get that..
Mark - 27 Feb 2004 12:03 |
I agree. Staff can be rude and the place is fairly impossible to find a seat.

This pub is an excellent example of quality in interior design and decent drinks. The professional bar staff never let you down supplying top stuff at great price.Ruby's customers are sophisticated classy individuals who seek a bit of elegance on a night out.

Agree with Martin - a nice enough place, but snotty staff on the occasions I have been there.

gorgeous fresh drinks made with love. visibly nice bar and nice staff. great great great music. sofas are great 'cause you can put your strawberry martini on the arm rest which is i would say 20cm! couch table has great height to put the feet on to relax the legs and to show of new shoes!
anna - 10 Sep 2003 23:45 |
This place doesn't know what it's meant to be. The decor does fit with a sophisticated 'lounge' environment. But it does seem to aim for the youthful end of the market. And on every occasion I've been there the staff have had an unpleasant attitude. Sorry, you have to be a bit more inspired before you're doing us a favour letting us drink in your bar.
Martin - 13 Aug 2003 12:42 |
Hidden treasure! If you want a chilled vibe after work...DON'T have the happy hour red wine however...
EL - 6 Aug 2003 10:45 |

DIONNE - 28 May 2003 17:41 |
An absolute tragedy - this once was a great 'local'
Colin - 23 May 2003 11:31 |
A decent bar. Certainly better than the one in Kings Cross and no mistake. Some neautiful people too which never goes amiss. All round: not bad.
Chris - 28 Mar 2003 17:34 |
wednesday to friday this place kicks off, in a chilled way
tom - 26 Mar 2003 19:22 |
wedsday nights r great u get to hear some realy good underground hiphop from a crazy bunch of djs who r up 4 a laugh
anonymous - 24 Feb 2003 02:46 |
Lovely big leather sofas give Ruby the 'lounge' factor. Friendly bar staff and a funky urban mid-twenties clientele make for sociable nights out. Be wary during the week though: inexperienced DJ's mix very badly and play the hip-hop way too loudly for enjoyment.
serge - 7 Feb 2003 09:39 |
The best bar in the area, great cocktails, funky tunes, good service, mixed non attitude crowd and cosy interior for day or night.
Rhiannon - 16 Jan 2003 14:50 |
The only young and trendy bar round the waterloo area.
anonymous - 19 Dec 2002 14:52 |
