Can't say i was that impressed by this pub. It all just felt a little bland to me and the only reason we stoped was because it was there really. There are better pubs in Polperro than this one.
5/10

steeped in history, but lacking in atmpshere on our visit.
shame really as the location and the building are near perfect, but this was a bit grubby inside and lacking in charm.

Three pumps dispensing Doom Bar and Proper Job while the Tribute was off. Food okay but nothing special. Got a bit fed up by the barmaid/landlady continually calling me 'Darling'. We have never met before!!!
Good fire and it was fairly quiet when I was in there, although it did get busy later I noticed when walking by. Beer was only St Austall Tribute but it was in good condition and the bar staff we good. A bit of a new and shiney bar but no complaints.
I had a half of St Austell's Tribute here. The place is shabby and according to an informed source, no new investment is likely from its brewery owner. Is this to be Polperro's next pub for the chop?
Had a decent pint of Yellowhammer but pub is not much to write home about. Sky Sports showing if you want footie.

The Ship Inn is, by far, the best pub in Polperro. Having just returned from a weeks holiday there, we found it to be the friendliest and most hospitable pub in the area. Sioux, Danny and everyone there made us so welcome and from the minute we arrived, we were made to feel special. Thankyou for making a wonderful holiday even better!
albajim - as friends of the bar staff, I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience. I can assure you that it's nothing to do with the bar staff but the upper levels in management. The Ship is actually under 'the care' of the management of the Pilchards and the current tennants of the Ship appear to be being given the 'bums rush'.
It's a sorry state of affairs and a pub that has managed to build up a great reputation is now being slowly destroyed but it's out of the hands of the current sitting tenants im afraid.

We were on holiday last year when the pup was taken over with new management, and were very impressed with food, drink and atmosphere, very family friendly a great improvement from our prevous visit in 2006. Returned this year expecting the same, very disappointed went in for a drink and a meal, only to be greeted with a sign on the door telling us that families with children had to sit through the back, went in but pub has now reverted back to the 2006 arrangements, the bar staff could not even muster a smile, left without ordering a meal. Have killed the atmosphere, not as friendly, appears thet the enthusiasm has wained. A great pity as we really enjoyed our many nights spent there last year.

This pub is rapidly re-establishing itself and is definately one of the premier spots in the village. The atmosphere has changed for the better since the refurbishment and the back room and seating area looks fantastic with the new roof, lights and slate floor. Sue and Danny, Kirsty and Paul are for ever welcoming and the food is of a very good standard and value. All the hard work will reap rewards I'm sure. I'd recommend it to any first time visitor to Polperro.
These people are trying so hard. The atmosphere is spot on and you get a good warm welcome. The beer is probably some of the best kept in the village. Looking forward to the completion of the work but it doesn't distract from a very friendly place.

The makeover and change of hands has done wonders. A nice pub to visit again with good music and great atmosphere on the Saturday night we visited.
Went there a couple of times in June 2009. The staff could not have been friendlier or more welcoming. Good beer / wine and a very good Thursday night quiz.
Recommended.

Good luck with the re-opening of the ship, hope it all goes really well for you. Will try and pop in for a beer when I can.
Great value local pub grub. All staff extremely welcoming and made me, my children, and my dog feel most at home. Decor a bit dated - but it adds to the charm! love it and visit every time we're in that neck of the woods.
A little dated inside but this pub has a lovely feel to it and the beer served is well kept - they keep a particularly good Wychwood Hobgoblin. It's nice to visit a pub that is unique and not part of a chain that all look the same!
a quick toilet stop only , had a very fast pint, didnt really stay long enough to decide, it was reasonably busy, average and not too memorable
Still a great pub - the Ship is really what a good community local should be like. Serving the only mild in Polperro, the Ship is well worth a visit.
sadly shabby and bit neglected atmosphere, but good beer if you dont mind that. seems a waste to have good outide area so neglected but maybe the bad summer doesnt help there.
I really liked this pub, its very tradional and had a good atmosphere, decor is very tatty but maybe part of its charm?
Excellent Quiz night. Very friendly.
beer was good, and staff were friendly. interior lets this pub down, as it is dark and tired. Menu is good, with big portions, but it has the feel of a canteen and it was not as good as could be expected. a good family pub, as it has a large family room and kids menu is quite large and at a reasonable price but the decor of the place is a let down
Bit tired now but still serve a good pint
This pub had a much nicer atmosphere when Franco ran it about twelve years ago. The interior decor does it no favours the blue is too cold a colour for a pub. The beer was average the staff indifferent to the customers, no friendly banter exchanged, this makes a huge diffence to whether people come back. Did not try the food as wanted to leave.
Poor quality beer served by misserable unhelpful staff
WE took part in the quiz night(Thursday) and felt a bit "out of town", but the beer was very nice.
Probably the friendliest pub in Polperro - everyone seems to get on very well. Only the other night, one local, undersized gentleman asked his pal if he would mind awfully if he were to stick his tongue down his pal's wife's throat! If you can't sample somebody else's wife's throat, the food tastes better than it looks - and the portions were ample. The beer was excellent. As was the live music. As for the free taste test requested above - I think she got away with it.
Beer and food above average. Management and staff personal and knowledgeable. Especially liked Hobgoblin!
Had a great time at their quiz night (thursday night at 2030) and the beer was excellent. Really friendly place
A good, friendly local, serving the only mild in the area (Courage Mild), mainly because the Landlord drinks it! At least you know it'll be good! Doom Bar and guests are also available. Good reasonably-priced food.
