Bloody hell, what's going on here? Walked into The Ship for customary pre-match couple of pints. Plenty of staff, could get to the bar due to quick service, not lack of punters, and a decent pint of Doombar (allowing for plastic glass) for £3? Almost a pleasure..... Can they keep this up?
Keeps being closed as it has no beer. Is it all over bar the shouting?

After a year of 6 different managers, George, Jp, Jeff, lee, Sylvia, we finally have Ross, who seems to understand the basics of pub running: stock beer, serve beer, take money, smile at customers. Simps!
Aah, the Ship. I shouldn't like this pub but I do. It is a bit of a Tardis pub being bigger in the inside. We went on a Friday night with only three other people in the pub, one who left when we accidently put a brolly on his chair. The pub looks a little tatty but has a smart outside area. It is currently leaking which is not great. Has pool and darts although the pool table is slightly askew. The Abbots was good and was served by a smiling European chap but there was no variety. Remarkably, given the unfriendly nature of other South Norwood pubs, this is the one I may come back to, if only to sit in the nice outside area.

What a dive! Steer clear .

Awesome news to hear about George finally being shown the door. Might actually consider working there again if it is any good. Let me know guys :)
Fially it is all over, a man barely capable of any kind of business has been shown the door. I wish the new licencee all the luck in the world turning the pub round. I think a big thank you is owed to him for freeing us from George.

George the Greek has been booted out! About Time! Lets hope The Ship gets sorted!
Its all over!!
Last Saturday George has a barbecue in the garden, in November? Due to the weather attendance was poor to say the least. If it was free food it may have helped bolster the turnout.. George get a grip!
George the Greek has now been fined 3000 for selling his own booze on the premises. Is it not time he wad binned and we got a proper manager?
Totally Agree with hugorune. George The Greek could not run a bath. He keeps sacking staff then re-employing them. He has totally cocked up the best pub in South Norwood. The sooner he leaves the better.
A pub once well run and friendly, now definitely one to avoid at all costs. Run by a man who has no training in pub management. Beer is often flat and undrinkable, but instead of changing an undrinkable pint, he will either claim it is fine, or will come up with some lame excuse. His contempt for his customers is matched only by his contempt for his staff. Most regulars have now left, and more go everyday. One word, AVOID !
The Pub has been taken over by George the Greek who could not run a bath let alone a pub. The pub has gone right downhill with the regulars complaining.

I was in here on sat 13th before Burnley game on route from Gatwick airport to cental london . Apparently it had only recently reopened and there appeared to be new bar staff being trained. However this didnt in any way detract from a warm atmosphere , friendly locals , good beer and also a pleasant outside seating area. So hopefully i'll get back some day !

This is an OK pub at the top end of South Norwood High Street so it's a little out of my way. I use it occasionally while I'm waiting for my nosh from the nearby Indian takeaway but at other times too. It gets very busy with home supporters on match days but there's usually a good atmosphere and there's no need to use those ghastly plastic drinking-vessels (can't call them glasses). Regular ales are Abbot & Young's ordinary but there are often guests.

Nice pub and friendly staff, can definately spend time in here with mates without agro.
good beers, good staff and fantastic garden. it looks nice too.
Couldn't believe my eyes this evening. Walked into The Ship to see a barmaid sneeze into her hands and then pick up a glass and serve it. She then went on to put away the clean items from the glasswasher
Ugh!
Is there no staff training policy, no health and safety policy, no common sense? Do they understand hand washing?

Best Pub in South Norwood? Not open at 1.15 this afternoon (Tuesday).
The Best Pub in South Norwood.
A decent pint of proper bitter at a reasonable price in a proper pub.
After 20 years or so, The Ship is still a pub I visit with pleasure. It's well run, there's a good choice of beers and the atmosphere is friendly. Keep going!
I agree with the last comment. Definitely the best in the area. I've spent many good evenings here. It has the nicest people and the best character in the area.
My favourite pub in South Norwood. Friendly and relaxed. Down to earth without being seedy. What a pub should be like. Definitely a pub for the 30+ people. Be warned very busy on match days -sometimes uncomfortably so - but great atmosphere.
