Harvest Home, Denmeadback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Having recently moved to the area we tried all the pubs in the area to see which suited us, we went here on a Friday lunch time and can safely say after just one visit this won hands down, my husband loved the real ales and the delicious home cooked food, we where made to feel so welcome by the lovely ladies providing the bar and waitress service. flyers on the tables gave lots of information about the live music, quiz and curry nights, weekly promotions and up and coming events, nice traditional pub, dog friendly too, the garden looked great although too cold to sit out this time of year, enclosed with kids play equipment etc. we will definitely be going back and this time taking our family for dinner as it is my mums birthday and they hire out their dining room for exclusive functions. truly a fabulous pub, try and im sure you'll feel the same.

Recommended by friends for lunch a few weeks ago. We had an evening Christmas meal there on December 8th. 2010 with 27 other friends. Excellent menu choices, well cooked and plenty of it in all courses, and well served by excellent friendly staff. Has to be the best group meal we have had in a pub in many a year and good value. Seperate dining area with easy access to the bar so we did not affect other customers and they didn't affect us, works very well.

New to the area we visited the harvest home for the first time over the weekend, we had a lovely meal, very welcoming staff we will be back!

I wish I could withdraw my previous comment.
We went for a curry again last week, and I now understand squashcourtfun's comment. The pub was practically empty with a lack of atmosphere. The curry was quite poor, I understand the leaseholders also run the bar at the golf club, which has a curry night on Wednesdays. I suspect I can guess where at least some of the food comes from.
The staff's attitude seemed to range from, at best, disinterest to downright rude, if they're not all chatting near the kitchens.
My pint of London Pride was flat and uninteresting.
We won't be rushing back.

Can't agree with the previous comments after the new landlord/landlady have taken over. I and friends have twice popped in and the food is inconsistent and the cleanliness is poor. My plate even stuck to the table last time and my food took 45 minutes to arrive; they've certainly not improved the atmosphere and the attitude of the staff is poor and they seem disinterested.
The curry night on a Thursday seems as though the food is re heated and the quality of the meat is chewy; as I'm in the catering trade it's probably from cash & carry!
I certainly wouldn't rush here if I was you. Very disappointing.

What an improvement!
It's now a far more family-friendly place with welcoming staff than the miserable couple who ran it before. The curry night on Thursdays is excellent value and the food top quality, at least as good as any nearby Indian restaurant. The bar menu is pretty good for snacks and a full a la carte menu is being prepared.
The Fuller's beers are well kept and not badly priced at 3, below average for this area. There's a new bouncy castle in the garden, which is safe and popular with children.
There is still more work for the new owners to do, but we hope they'll get there soon and bring out the full potential of the pub.
One small criticism is the attitude of one of the staff - a hangover from the previous regime.

New Manager .... old couple went to IOW !
Getting busier by the day .... even stays open when there are people still drinking !

We went to the Harvest Home again recently. We had the pub nearly to ourselves, it seems most regulars have deserted the place now. There was no atmosphere and some unidentifiable muzak was playing and the ubiquitous sky sports news was on the TV.
We were pleased to see that the licensee's daughter had recovered from a broken ankle she got slipping off the bouncy castle, which had negligently and stupidly been placed on the concrete patio area last summer. We wonder what would have happened if the accident had happened to a customer's child.
We had a meal, which would have been poor for a greasy spoon. The veg had obviously been kept warm for hours, it was soggy and practically inedible. The meat in the pork curry was obviously left over from sunday lunch (4 days previous) and was accompanied by a dried up and tired salad garnish.
The only saving grace was the beer, the London Pride was well kept.
I doubt the pub will be open if we try it again next year.
This used to be a thriving pub. It's a shame to find it so run down and deserted. It seems to have been caused by the attitude of the landlady, she is given as the reason the former regulars have deserted the place.

Where do I start with this? Okay, I was on a quick Friday lunch out there with work, and we ordered liver and bacon, that sort of thing. There was a few of us, but we thought that it should come in about 20 minutes as the pub was not busy. When the food had turned up, they only brought half the food out, so half of us didn't have any food at all, and had to wait 10 minutes before the rest of the meals turned up. Okay, this could have been a one-off incident, but the food wasn't of the highest quality or taste. The landlady was very rude and unhelpful too no wander the place was empty. I want to give a redeeming feature to the pub, but I can't think of one. Says it all really...

A great looking pub both inside and outside, good start but that is as far as it goes, the use of foul language at the bar by locals/passing trade?(Good place to take your family.!!) Was appalling, the sheer incompetence of the bar staff, would explain the distinct lack of punters and atmosphere within this establishment. Despite it being a not very busy Saturday evening the barmaid was far more interested in having a casual conversation with a small girl that must live there?. I can understand that there may sometimes be more important issues at hand than a couple of glasses of wine, and that I will have to wait my turn if someone is at the bar before me, however, in this instance it was nothing short of rudeness especially when one female member of staff was playing on the fruit machine behind me, After being kept waiting at the bar for service we were then acknowledged with a very discourteous mime with a finger pointing upwards telling us to wait another minute. I have never come across anything so disrespectful in any other establishment that I have had the pleasure, or indeed displeasure, of drinking in over previous years. I was hoping to be able to comment on the quality of the food and drink, however, I can't as we were so disgusted we left without ordering.

When I walked past this pub and looked in I was willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. Sure it looked a bit empty, but i quite like those kind of places. But when I walked in it was literally like a wild west saloon, people swearing at the bar especially a guy that had a really loud voice, the people that were in there looked round to the doorway and gave a disapproving look as if to say 'how dare you enter our pub!' The barmaid was at least friendly towards us. This place is not to be recommended, I will not bring my family in here again especially with foul language that was being used at the bar

I am pleased to say that a random stop at an attractive country pub has brought back all the memmories of how a proper family pub should be run. We were welcomed with a smile, which is rare these days, and a decent pint of Ale (even rarer).
The afternoon got better when the food we ordered was of a high standard without the usual long wait. I am pleased to say that the traditional family pub is alive and happening in the village of Denmead. If you have had enough of the 2 meals for 5.99 at Weatherspoons and prefer an afternoon spent in relaxing friendly suroundings, a rip to the Harvest Home is well worth the time and effort.

This pub is a great family place to bring your kids and have a good meal. The landlord and landlady make this place for me and always make our children feel welcome.
It's nice to have a safe environment to go to in Denmead and it's no surprise that the "Denmead Boozers" have been put off.
|
Sadly, the pub has gone downhill recently, due to the attitude problem of the landlady. Most of the regulars have now deserted for the White Hart or Forest of Bere. We hope it doesn't go bust and the pub sold for development.
|
Good Gales pub...they were going to pull it down a while ago to replace it with even more houses ,like Denmead needs anymore characterless new rabbit hutches built there !

Best pub in Denmead.
