Ye Olde Salutation Inn, Weobleyback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Doesn't seem to have changed at all since my last review. The Wye Valley Butty Bach was in fine condition yesterday; I didn't try the Goff's Cheltenham Gold.

A lovely looking pub with nice wooden framing inside and 2 separate bars, one seemingly showing sports for the locals and not very enticing and the other with a restaurant attached. I can't comment on the food but the St George's Friar Tuck was in good order and there was also Wye Valley Flower Power and Butty Bach. The barman was somewhat surly (although we did merit a thank-you when we left) but seemed more friendly towards his regulars. I would revisit (and try the food) because the village is one of the most attractive black-and-white villages of the area (in 2008 it appeared in the top fifty of the Times Newspapers best places to live in England). Unless the food/accommodation is dire, then this pub deserves a better rating than its current rating of 4/5.

Recently taken over, this place has been transformed. It's now clean, tastefully-decorated, with comfortable seats and a great atmosphere. There's a good selection of local beers from the Wye Valley & Ludlow Breweries, and an excellent menu. We went for a meal the other night and the place was packed - which speaks for itself. A 3-course meal for 2 of us plus drinks was under 60, and was excellent value for money.
If you've bever been before, or have visited in the last 10 years or so and been disappointed, give this place another try before its fame spreads and you can't book a table. You won't be disappointed!

ALTHOUGH THE PUB HAS RECENTLY CHANGED HANDS AND EVERONE WAS BUSY NOTHING WAS TO MUCH TROUBLE.THE MENU SEEMED REASONABLE FOR GOOD FOOD. ONCE AGAIN THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS AND I WILL DEFINATLEY BE GOING BACK. GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL IN YOUR NEW VENTURE.GREAT 10/10.

STOP PRESS - as with everything, things change. Four of us camew here for Sunday lunch about 5 years ago - it was brilliant. I booked for 4 again on the basis of our previous experience for Sunday lunch on 5th August..............only then did I read recent reports on both this site and trip advisor. I am delighted to say that it has obviously gone full circle!! The Sunday roast was superb - both the pork and lamb; in fact despite the fact that we get our meat from a local country butcher this was just superb and a huge portion of 6 thickly cut succulent slices served with a plentiful supply of beautifully cooked veg as well. The starters must be mentioned as being beautifully presented and prepared as well - wild mushroom x 1 and goats cheese x 3. I really hope that Dave, the current boss for about one week now, is granted the running of the establishment by Enterprise Inns as he will without doubt, in his 30 years experience in the trade, make a huge success of the place which is what it deserves. It would be unfair to mention deficiencies durig this trial phase which has been going for a week; suffice to say that in such a small enclave, he served 45 full meals on the Saturday night - during the height of the summer in a small herefordshire village! Dave - take this place on - and potential customers............just don't hesitate! Dr Nigel & Mrs Annette Huggins; Mr Michael & Mrs Kathleen Darcy 5th Aug 07

We stayed for 2 nights - what a farce. Dinner was a trial on both nights and the brakfast was made up of re heated bacon and stale bread. If you want a drink in Weobley go to the unicorn down the road - it may look like a dump on the outside but we had a very enjoyable time there.....we then had to go back to the Salutation which looks lovely from the outside but REALLY is a dump inside.

Oh dear, oh dear. Wished I had read the reviews above. Sorry, but one of the worst meals we have eaten and the price, for leaving most of it on the plate, was staggering. We were suckered in by the look of the place (which is lovely)
Don't the owners care....?

This place looks the part to such an extent, I'm so glad to find out someone else had a terrible experience in here.
Overpriced for sure, the staff were weird and disinterested. The entire bar top was covered in empty glasses, with no-one attempting to clear them up. Two of the beers were off. We were charged 3 for a lime and soda - three quid! It was because they used "special soda" - by which they mean, specially warm and flat.
It's so depressing when places that rake in tourist money just become money-grabbing, complacent gits. Not impressed at all.

I went in a party of six for a Monday lunchtime pub meal. The place was heaving - with Telegraph readers on a two courses for 5 deal. They'd mistaken our booking for one of these but thankfully I sorted that before we ordered from the "wrong" menu. The service was slow. Between us we had 5 starters (2 soup of the day and 3 more expensive), 6 faggots and peas with mashed potatoes - that came without the peas (the chef had changed his mind), we ordered 2 side orders of chips to share -they came in one small dish (less than half a chip shop portion) so we ordered another. Then between us we had four puds (2 icecreams and 2 more expensive) 3 coffees. To drink we had 1 pints bitter, 1 rum and coke (in a tin), 2 x tins ginger beer, 2 small bottles of mineral water, 2 x lemonade and limes. The bill came to 142.20! 10 of which was the chips - I reckon about 10p a chip. I was flabbergasted! It is ONLY a pub. The food was OK but not worth the money. Oh, and they argued with me when I asked for a clean cup for my coffee. Would I got back - NO WAY. And I'd think long and hard about going anywhere that was partaking in the Telegraph promotion. Were we subsidising the 5 meals? I should have smelled a rat when I noticed the sign about charging diners 75 pence for tap water unless you were also ordering from the bar.

Fabulous better than average black and white pub in historic black and white village. No tourist trappings here - 3/4 letting bedrooms in true country style, beer is good, food excellent, ambience okay would have liked some background music so we didn't have to whisper!
