In response to Riach:
Your low rating of this pub is totally unfair.
The tavern allows admitance to those wearing a wrist band regardless of how closely they resemble the Mitchell brothers. Those wrist bands sell out very early (before 4pm usually) on bank holidays.
That's as much tact as I can muster.

Watched the GMFA/Royal Vauvhall Tavern sports afternoon with partner & had a great time, beer tent area was busy but good service. After the races we decided to have a drink in the Tavern with, only for ME to be tapped on the arm by security (who couldn't be bothered to get off his stool & who didn't really want to be there on a Bank Holiday) & informed with such tact "It's full"
Maybe it was because we didn't look like the Grunt or Phil Mitchell lookalike who went in two seconds before/
My rating would have to be no points
I will be back for the 2011 GMFA/Tavern Sports day but will have my drinks from the beer tent rather than the Tavern

Our place of worship on Sundays!

Jason is still the manager and what a great job he does there; probably London's best gay bar. Fantastic diverse mix of nights, friendly staff, reasonable prices, clean, good security. You'd think I work for the place the way this review is going but go and see for yourself. It really is this good (though if you go on Sundays brace yourself for some fairly high levels of hedonism...)

this is a gay bar

I`ve only been there once, after being refused entry to Renaissance Rooms when i was 18. All the blokes were really nice to me and my naivety brought me drinks all night!! :O)

I have visited the vauxhall tavern regularly for the past 3 years. I have always found the staff and security very friendly and helpful. What a surprise I received after coming back from holiday and finding a new and very cold security team in place of the usual friendly ones that I am used to. They were very rude and abrupt and generally spoilt my day out from the off. I hope that if they are to stay in charge of the door at the tavern they learn some manners and quickly.

Last time I was there, Jason owned it and the weekends were great!
Does Jason still own it?.....Hoping to visit again in the next few weeks :-)

The pub has been extensively refurbished since the previous reviews.. The new owners have improved the mixed sex toilet that has three cubicles and completely replaced the men's toilet. They have new lighting and air conditioning, they have painted and decorated the interior and all in all it feels much nicer now. Having said that they have managed to keep the atmosphere of the pub exactly as it always has been. They now open every night of the week with very different events planned. However Saturday is still Duckie (music form the Readers Wifes and live performances) and Sundays are still the manic SLAGS chill out with the Dane Edna Experience. You can happily go both of these weekend days and feel like you have had two very different nights out. What can I say ! They advertise the pub as the "Beating Heart of Vauxhall" and that pretty much sums it up for me ! Love it !

I agree with last posting. Ok the toilets have always been vile from as far as I remember , but the staff from the 90's were great!.... particulary Carol( i think that was her name) the assistant manageress who worked there..... very hard worker, and a great smile! Terribly missed when she went..... Bring back the old days/staff....refurbish the toilets, and the Vauxhall Tavern will be a fab all over again!

Vauxhalls oldest and most well known gay bar.A home for many a drag act, this pub is historic. However,it is also filthy. The toilets are disgusting and the beer far below standard. However,I understand that big changes are planned for the Vauxhall. I shall certainly be keeping my eye on it. P.S. If the new management team read this, then for Gods sake employ bar staff that seem keen to serve customers, not camp it up with each other and then tut loudly when some work has to be done!!
