Decent locals pub, friendly barmaid who was hard working. Better than the modern 'bars' nearby.

After 6 pints and over �20 spent at this pub, I made the mistake of asking for a glass of water for my mate (who had spent about �15), and with whom I had enjoyed a few brilliant hours of live sport. I wouldn't have bothered asking for water in any other establishment, but having been a weekend regular at this pub for 6 months, I thought that out of respect, my mate and I should try to remain as sober as possible whilst waiting for an 8pm rugby match.
The reply to my request for water: "I'm going to serve people who actually order alcohol, or you can pay for your water." Thinking I must have mis-heard, I told my friend to ask for a glass of water (this was 20 seconds after having paid for 1 pint of Fosters and 1 Stella), but he got the same response.
I was so disappointed and angry that we just left our pints there and went next door (Hartley's), which incidentally was 85p cheaper for a pint of Fosters, and whose bar staff were incredibly accomodating - one of the staff actually took the time to go online to double check the rugby game kickoff time, and eventually printed out confirmation of the match being postponed (thank you again, if you ever read this!).
My advice: Go where the pints are cheaper and where you're actually valued as a customer. even after comitting the ultimate sin of asking for water.

Depressing and rather tatty pub on a depressing and rather tatty bit of Tower Bridge Road north of the Bricklayers' Arms roundabout. The pub has a nice Truman, Hanbruy and Buxton frontage (albeit one that's looking a bit unloved) but inside is pretty tatty. It's quite roomy with a big central bar. On the weekday evening I happened by there it was empty but for five or six regulars. I had a pint of Fosters (fine) - there was a handpump on the other side of the bar but I couldn't see what, if anything, it was dispensing.

A fairly standard local. Not in great shape - could use a good scrubbing. They've made some curious changes lately including pulling down the great old glass rack and installing bizarre church pews (I think that's what they are?) on one side of the pub.
A popular place with the locals, most of which are not overly friendly. Some of the bar staff are welcoming but others are rude to any non-regular. This is especially true of the young barmaid with dark hair - I've been in numerous times and not seen her smile once to customers other than the ones she is obviously friends with.
If you're in the area and need a pint, may be worth a shot if you're feeling adventurous. Otherwise, move on to the next ordinary pub.

Ex-Truman's pub opposite Manze's pie'n'mash. Interior comfortable, all the brass shiny and, at 1100 on a Saturday morning, a barman who appeared completely unfazed by several groups, some in top hats, ordering halves and obviously kicking off a monopoly pub crawl (it's near the Old Kent Road, and with better bus routes for Fenchurch St, the next stop). The beer itself, Courage Director's, was average at best.

This is one of three pubs located really close to my new flat and the first one we went for a beer in. It is the only 'real' pub close by and is good if a little rough and ready.
Had a few pints and the staff + regulars were friendly. Not been back to eat but I will report again once I have.

40 years ago my Granddad was the guvnor in this place, I went to find it on new years eve but got lost.
Now looking on the map i was so close but not close enough, When i go back i will post everything about it on here.
As a kid it was a great place, hope it aint changed that much, Tommy Steele was a regular in the days
