Hartley, Bermondseyback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Pub needs to learn to pay it's staff.. 8 weeks with no pay is a disgrace.. we will be boycotting this bar until it starts treating it's minimum waged staff properly!!

a little grotty inside (sofas falling apart etc)
but ultimately not a bad place - only a small selection of beer though, and no real ale...just lagers and guinness.

Went here for lunch on Saturday with a group of about 8 others. Nearly empty, which was a bonus -- I did not want to wait ages to be served. The barmaid asked if we wanted all our food to be brought at once, which we did, so she took all our orders and poured all our drinks, before taking any of our food orders to the kitchen. She came back later saying that there was no fish&chips, so 2 people had to re-order. Eventually the food came out, slowly, in dribs & drabs, so some people had finished before I got mine. One person was served the smallest egg & chips I've ever seen, another got the smallest bacon sandwich I'd ever seen. I had a burger: the chips were large (but not freshly fried), the burger not bad, but the bun was a cheap 'plastic' supermarket type -- worse than McDonalds, and not what you expect with a 7 burger. Fish-finger sandwiches looked edible, but at 5.50 for 3 fish fingers, a bun, a few chips and a bit of salad, I would have felt ripped-off. You really can't call this a 'gastropub'.
In summary: a nice place, clean toilets, but amateur service, and food over-priced. Nothing was actually *bad* but it's worth a second visit.

22 July 2009 - open, but no real ale available

All the windows are boarded up at the moment (9th June 2009). Not sure whether it's closed or being refurbished.

Main Course: Not bad. Ordered a burger, served on a posh plate, with seven (yes, seven) chips and a decent sized bed of rocket. The chips were enormous, though, so it looked like a reasonable portion. Also ordered an extra plate of 'vegetables', which was basically a plate of runner beans and a sprig of Asparagus (might have expected a little more variety). It was, however, quite edible, and filling.
Pudding: Sticky toffee pudding: quite small, served worryingly quickly, with a small portion of ice-cream. Not too bad.
Service: Friendly staff. Was a bit annoyed to see the 'non compulsory' 12.5% service charge automatically added to the bill (this is a real pet hate of mine).
Building: Toilets were a little clean. Paid no attention to the two small fruit flies that were buzzing around a little bit. Good atmosphere - busy, music not too loud for a Thursday evening. General: Worth a visit, but I don't think I'll be going back.

Tower Bridge Rd has changed so much in a decade - people actually visit now! I visit the Hartley occasionally - very good roasts on Sunday - usuallly charming service and fairly unpretentious, even if it isnt a boozer anymore. Transformed into something pretty good.

Visited with a friend at lunchtime today. Brilliant food and a very relaxed atmosphere. The service very attentive without being pushy. Excellent value for money as well.

Lovely vibe to this pub. Great for lazy Sunday afternoons.

Have not eaten in here although the food looks good going out. All round a nice pub and I would describe it as harmless if a little boring. Beer was pretty good and the place is clean and bright.

Excellent gastropub. Quality food with friendly service. A diamond in the rough that is Tower Bridge Road.
