We made the effott to visit this place during our recent stay in Ryton and I'm glad we did. Great looking place with two rooms. We stayed in the larger room which held the bar and a great selection of real ales across all the different styles, just missing a mild. Friendly landlord and locals makes this a must visit if you find yourself in the Wylam area.

brilliant pub opposite the station with a vast choice of ales,a must visit if up this way.

A must on any crawl of the Hadrians Line, at least 10 real ales always in great condition, there will be something for every taste. The numerous dogs can get a bit intrusive especially on Sunday afternoon when their owners feed them the free bar snacks, dont these people know that Cheese is very bad for them. Occasional speciality beer festivals.

Nice enough place with bar/lounge set up with what looks like music in the lounge half at times. The Greys Best went down well.

The beer here is great and has been for the past two decades. There's always lots of ales to choose from and they're very well kept. The pub itself is a bit grotty these days and could do with redecoration, but if you love your ales and don't mind the occasional smell of damp dog you'll probably love it.

A fantastic pub easily deserving of the Camra recognition it regularly attracts. 15 hand pulled real ales on offer. Friendly staff and locals. A step away from the railway station. If you like great, traditional pubs and real ale you must seek out this place.

Excellent beer: a range of 14 real ales when we visited on 19th May 2011. Good food and friendly service to go with it. Nice raised outdoor garden and small patio area next to the quiet road.
Great pub right next to station. Good range of ales from both local and not so local breweries. All I tried were in excellent conditon. Made very welcome by the guvnor, staff and punters. Wish my local station had a pub like this on its doorstep!
Great choice of ales all looked after well. Good boozer which I would love as my local.
fantastic pub next to station, great selection of beers, loved the fyne avelanche and jarl beer.manager made us southerners very welcombe and made one of my mate wear a wig.nice rolls served here as well.top pub.

Great Selection of Real Ales on a constantly changing basis. For the Cider Lovers there is always a range of Ciders served from the cellar *Regular and Guest)
The Boathouse has won CAMRA pub of the year in the area many times in the past few years and rightly so. It's perfect for a week-night after work pint as much as a weekend when there is music or karaoke on. Great Staff and Regulars, and perfect position for getting there by train (Check out the Ale Train leaflets at the bar as the line has many pubs in its vicinity)

My wife and I visited this Pub on Sat the 2nd and we were very impressed with the selection of ales, even though some of the natives were a little restless
Definitely in my top 10 pubs of all time, fantastic place, fantastic beer, brilliant location.Easy to get to by train & a good mix of people, couldn't be better.

Last time I was in they had fallen out with Wylam Brewery and were no longer the brewery tap, I hope this has been resolved.
Went in here for Sunday lunch and a few pints last weekend. Situated only 2 stations away from Newcastle city centre and located between the two platforms, this is a surprisingly handy pub. In addition to being the Wylam Brewery Tap, it has several other pumps for guest ales. During our visit, they had Old Grog, Wylam Gold Tankard, Wylam Bohemia Lager, Wylam Magic, Fyne Ales Vital Spark, Fyne Ales Avelanche, Hadrian & Border Tyneside Blonde, Consett Ale Works White Hot, Consett Steel Town, Wychwood Dirty Tackle & Banks & Taylor Shefford Bitter. There were also 5 real ciders listed, included 4 from Westons and Moles Black Rat. This seemed a really pleasant pub. The bar was packed and the lounge was doing a good trade in Sunday lunches. 8/10. The only thing that stopped me giving a 9 was the barman unable to find the Black Rat cider as advertised on the board!

Disappointing to put it mildly - regardless of the admittedly fine array of real ales. Whatever you do, don't get caught in the room to your right when you go in. It's charver heaven on a Friday night.
Still as good as ever and now stocking Geltsdale beers from Brampton, often has folk music on Saturday afternoon.
Amazing place, mega friendly locals and staff and beer heaven as stated earlier, rated in my top five pubs ever.
Bloody good, but not as great as it was in its glory days. RIP Colin Sidney!
At last -a'proper pub'!-busy,bustling,friendly plus wonderful beer,no background music or TV.It was also nice to see the beer priced by strength. As said before, beer heaven.
Now 12 ales and the brewery tap for the Wylam Brewery. Does what it says on the tin
Beer heaven folks, 10 handpulled cask beers/ciders on any given day and right next door to Wylam station for those who wish to take the short train journey from Newcastle....quality bar with great staff and regular live entertainment....worth seeking out
