This pub was recommended by some guides, but I can’t think why ! There were only 2 beers available, out of 5 handpumps, and they were Kelham Island Pale Rider, and Greene King IPA (I think). However, there was no-one serving at the bar, and no sign of any staff (I wasn’t the only one waiting). After 5 minutes I gave up and went across the road to the Lamb & Packet.

Called in last week, has been done up, the music was very loud, the pub was busy with a decent atmosphere... there was some real ale on tap which was palatible if nothing else... a very busy student chain pub...

Recently refurbished in a rather eclectic style. Very busy, mostly students and other young people in the evenings. Large 'beer garden' at rear. Not a bad pub and certainly worth a visit if in the area but don't expect too much from the beer.

Just reinvented as a "traditional pub". Need lessons in how to look after ale.

Not the greatest pub but 2 redeeming features - has function room which puts live bands on and a beer 'yard' which is a real sun-trap for those summer evenings.

When I first went to uni in Preston, fellow students and I used this place all the time. Then the landlord left, the decor changed into the 'oh so original' chrome & wood look and the place lost its atmosphere overnight. My last visit was last year when I had cause to complain about the over-officious attitude of the surly door staff and 'security' (complete with ear pieces) who stand around the place like bad CIA agents spotting potential transgressors at a demonstration. The mangeress was needlessly rude, arrogant, unhelpful, and confrontational. The beer is average and overpriced and the food is mediocre at best. A shame really because the staff are friendly and helpful but this is not enough to save this place. Awful.

I used to work there a few years ago, under the reign of John and Lucy. They've since left and the pub has started to dwindle away into a mediocre place.
I have fantastic memories of this great place, won't be going back a gain to tarnish them further though.

A big yellow scream pub, populated by Students. Not all bad however, has a good atmosphere and decent music on.
