Ebor, Bishopthorpeback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Two bar Sam Smith's pub in the main street through Bishopthorpe. OBB is the solitary real ale. But we did enjoy a meal here. It was very busy on our Saturday evening visit. But we were squeezed in (literally). Service was very nice, from polite bar staff/servers. The menu is quite basic. But the specials board was more appealing. Has a nice garden at the rear.

Another visit to the Ebor for a meal and a few beers.
Extremely glad to see that nothing has changed since our last visit here at Easter, the food is still good quality home cooked and served in large portions and the Old Brewery bitter is still under £2.00 a pint and very drinkable.
Busy again during our 3 hour stay. The Ebor is a great pub, good food, quality ale, old style décor and of course conversation is king with no music or fruit machines etc. in the lunge bar.
Still rated highly by this reviewer.

Easter Friday evening, the wife and I came here for a few drinks and a meal.
The 3 pubs in the village are all very different with the Ebor being the locals local, it’s also the villages only Samuel Smiths pub so all of the drinks on offer are from the Sam Smiths range including spirits & soft drinks.
Sovereign bitter is one of my favourite ales as its always dependably good, thankfully the Sovereign here was not a let down and all 4 pints I had were excellent.
Packed with diners and drinkers, there's no music as conversation is king and everyone talks to each other, great if you like talking to strangers. We first visited the Ebor in November 2015 on our last visit to the York area and will not hesitate to return the next time I'm in the area.
Great old fashioned pub, friendly locals, good beer, cheap prices....ticks all my boxes.

After a nice meal at The Woodman I wanted to visit the other 2 pubs in the village so we start at this lovely looking Samuel Smiths pub which is sat back from the main road.
Lounge bar to the right as you enter and the lounge to the left. We sat in the lounge as it was quieter and enjoyed our drinks. The lounge bar has a dart board and had music playing but was not as busy as the lounge.
As to be expected the full range of Sam Smiths drinks available, the Old Brewery Bitter was in fine form. The interior is of traditional form with the walls adorned with photos of the pub over the years, local area maps, plenty of horse brass & china plates hanging on the walls. Hanging from the bar are a large amount of horse racing entry badges and a framed picture with a badge from each of the 59 UK racecourses.
Lively chatter from the locals and the 2 bar man, giving the pub a real welcoming feel.
I must mention the interesting and loud tiles in the gents toilet these are very eye-catching! There’s also a small collection of beer mirrors hanging in the gents.
To the rear is a large garden, kids play area and patio, being 10pm at night and mid-November I didn’t venture out.
Apparently the landlord has been here for 30 years and is clearly doing everything right as the Ebor is a cracking village pub, very traditional and welcoming.

After a good walk from York city centre (about 1.5 hours along the river) found this place... well kept Sam's (not a common thing unfortunately) and... most importantly for me DOG FRIENDLY! perfect!
Watch out for the 'pure brewed lager' though- has a bit of a kick... the walk back was enlivened by a bottle of Sam's 'organic best bitter'
heartily recommend this place.

Excellent pint of Sam Smiths Old Brewery Bitter served in true Yorkshire style with a tight creamy head. I nearly fell through the floor when I got change from two quid for a pint. Although I did not eat, the menu looked good and the stuff I saw being taken to tables seemed to bear this out.

Very welcoming pub, well worth a visit and a good pint of Sam Smiths

Called for lunch on 26th May 2007 - very friendly staff and landlord - ensured we had a full pint without asking. Very well kept beer and good sandwiches and chips. Also noticed they provide water for dogs and have a beer garden at the rear.
They maybe a "local's local" but they also welcome non-locals.

Beer at 1.38 a pint, real ale at that. Say no more!!

Who here would dare to call this a mere pub? This isn't a pub, mate. It's a whole village in microcosm. The place is heaving with parish councillors, amdram fanatics in costume (or are they?), lollipop ladies, jam-making matrons, local newsletter-editors, school governors, other assorted busybodies and, chance as not, half the Church of England's hierarchy in unconvincing mufti. Some devoted regulars might even have their post delivered here, and the milkman always knows where to find late payers. York's whacky, idiosyncratic bus services orbit this pub in a kind of timetabled Brownian motion, and so do the customers at closing time (if such time there be).
