Now a Tesco Express. Ironically you can get a better selection of wines, beers and spirits now than when it was a pub but thats not really the point is it?
|
Demolition contractors are now on site so its 'Hasta la vista baby' for another pub.
|
Tesco asked for planning permission to turn this into a(nother!) Tesco's express, citing the great benefit of "up to" 25 jobs being created, no doubt nearly all temp or casual. Like most big firms nowadays they'll probably go ahead with or without permission.

Drove past this Sunday and its now closed and boarded up so clearly the rugby club were not worth waiting for.

New Management - yet again - so we decided to try the venue again. When entering the pub at 12.45pm we were advised that we would not be served until 1.30pm as the Rugby Club who had a party booking had arrived one hour late. I advised the staff that in that case it was they who should wait not us but however they were not in agreement. We can only hope for the sake of the new management that the Rugby Club will become regulars as I don't think we will. At some time we may well give this venue one last shot but sadly since Marion left some 5 years + ago this once very dependable venue that served first class food, promptly in a busy pub with a good atmosphere and friendly and happy staff HAS LOST ITS WAY.

New landlord (again!). Made a promising start - pub currently undergoing re-decoration scheme. New menu including fish of the day, plus live music on offer! Quizzes etc Ale selection - choice of 5 including Doom Bar and two from Arundel - kept very well... friendly staff and dog friendly! I'll be in more often...

Couldn't find fault in the ale or the service. The food, however, is appalling. Not that it's inedible but think 2nd class transport cafe and you have it. One of my pet hates is food served up in microwave dishes. How long would it take to tip it out! The steak pie I had was similar to a Fray Bentos job and was served up like a school dinner. My partner had sausage and mash which a ten year old could have made nicer. Appaling value! Avoid the food!

The Green Jackets has recently been taken over by Jacki and Ray, who also run the The Marlipins Pub in Shoreham High Street. The menu has changed and the food just keeps getting better. The staff are far happier and the customers keep commenting on what a lovely atmosphere the pub has now. Tables can now be booked and good service is the order of the day.
|
It used to be the Green Jacket (not the Green Man) but added the extra 's' a few years ago. No idea why. Good value pub grub.
|
Expensive, totally devoid of atmosphere in the public bar. Could be much much better.

This is a great pub. Ate there with the family several times while my kitchen was being re-built and it never let us down. Have not had a bad meal there - even went there on mothers day and it was just as good.
I reckon it's got better in the last year or so. One of the best pubs in Shoreham for value and quality on food.
|
I first went there with a party of retired old farts for a lunchtime 'do'. I thought food was so memorable I had to return. I phoned to reserve a table and was told there were no reservations, only first come, first serve. Got there to find a queue and a waiting time of 45 minutes. I think that must have been around the time of licensee change. Beer was OK on previous visit but did not wait around to find out if it still was.
|
it was called The Green Man until 7 or 8 years ago i think

Why is it called the Green Jackets? I have lived in Shoreham for almost 35 years and it was always the Green Jacket!
|
Just shows how subjective things can be from looking at the last posters comments! We had a great meal in there at lunchtime last week.Barman was friendly, beer and food was excellent and good value.Came round to check everything was ok with the meal.I'd recommend it.

Was it the landlord who posted the last?

With regard to the last comment you are obviously on your own with this thinking - all the regulars are still regulars and new customers or customers who have not been for a while seem to think things have improved and appreciate the "hands on" effort the new landlord is taking. Maybe you went on a bad day and should try again. Try speaking to the landlord - you may be pleasantly surprised!
