A popular pub near the amusements. 3 real ales on the bar which included Wychwood Hob Goblin. It was reasonably friendly but the decor was a bit basic. There was large outside drinking area.

Went in here one Saturday afternoon while visiting Southend as there happened to be a match on the TV that I wanted to watch. A group of men were sat around a low table watching the game while what appeared to be a mother & daughter combo tried unsuccesfully to cadge beer off them. When West Ham (may the blessings of the prophet be upon them) scored the winning goal all of the men jumped up while the women nicked their fags off of the table. The barmaid was friendly and the beer - IPA and a bitter was alright but there was no other cask beer on offer. After the match we moved further down the room at the rear of which was a pool table a couple of feet higher than us and reached by some steps. A plain looking woman who had obviously made an effort to dress up came in along with her boyfiend and began playing pool. Everytime she bent over the table her dress rode up exposing a pretty decent pair of white theighs above her black stockings. I could have stayed their all day.

I've been in here a couple of times but never stopped for more than a pint or two. Given the choice of pubs along the seafront this does not stand out at all. Service is OK, draft lager OK and staff OK. Nothing special. Almost like a waiting room for the music venue next door.

Cheap Pool which is about the only thing going for this pub in the afternoon, definatly a place to visit in the evening not the afternoon

was in here sunday for the airshow , the door staff were friendly and chatty and were straight onto trouble before it could get started , the bar staff were brilliant and even though the place was packed with the chav classes of essex (i maybe 25 and live in essex but im no chav) we still got served pretty quick , not overly pricey (bottle of magners , pint of tetleys and a double ammaretto n coke 11) all served in obligatory plastic cups , a nice pub after the airshow had finished we stayed put for a few hours and it died down lovely in here a nice pub really

I'm thinking all the emo kids have come on here in the thousands and voted for this place, because it sure as hell doesn't deserve the rating it has.
Okay so, it's a small venue where you can see the next up and coming emo/metal acts, but it's nothing special. The dance floor has a huge pole right in the middle of it, which spoils things greatly.
It's not a great pint but not as bad as some of em, if you've been looking for a local venue to catch a few bands and a few average priced drinks, this is the place to be.

A decent place, good pub area and a nice little music venue. taste of stella draught was awful last week. everything else was fine though. great place for gigs.

Theres 2 parts to this pub,
Live music venue with a smallish bar which I attend about twice a month. Only gripe is some of the barstaff will only serve you 1 drink at a time on 18+ nights..
And a Main pub, main pub is fine, beer has always been fine. never had anything to eat there. Toliets were in a bit of a state on 1 or 2 occassions.

Could be worse... could be the Minerva! Been here quite a bit for the music, have had bands sunch as the Ordinary boys and Lost Prophets, weeks before they hit it big time. worth a sherbet.

went in here on the airshow weekend , but usually use this pub as quite lively and they give you plastic glasses (proper tough plastic not flimsy cups) if you want to sit outside , was packed but found a seat near the pool table was aload of 16-20 years old who were a bit noisy but they were good as gold and we even joined them for the games they were playing , a good pub all in all reasonable prices good drink .
