No real ales so best avoided if you want cask ales.

No ales. Loud pop music. Sunburnt geezers in pink polo shirts. Also a prostitute was operating in the gents toilet. Brilliant pub!

Great time had in here. Very friendly staff.

came back for a visit recently. Still a good pub for a night out. The hotel is brilliant value at 25 per person per night including a cooked breakfast. Weekend music still great with Les and a new DJ Tony. Should improve on more live music though. Apart from that Anne Marie and George give a good service.I still rate this pub 9 out of 10. Sybil

I recently visited The Hope Hotel while visiting from Boston. The Bar was gorgeous... the atmosphere was fun and friendly. But the best part was meeting the owners... they were so welcoming and warm. I will go back just to see them. Make sure you say Hello to George and Anne Marie!

Good cider. Good DJs, even the guitarist is on form. Pat, the door man, is a Top Man.
The clientel aint your usual young bucks on a night out, but thank God for that. A good time had by all.
If you don't like this pub, you aint got no soul.
Even better on biker weekend at the start of the year too.

have visited this pub many times. always a friendly welcome by owners. Sundays is buzzing and Les the DJ has a brilliant range of music - loved the blues session Les. Lee Pankhurst plays alternate Fridays, a superb guitarist and lover of Hendrix. you must have more live music especially after last Saturday an Elvis tribute "what a babe" lovely hotel rooms and good value too. keep up the good work.

what are some of these reviews talking about? i visited this pub to watch southend united parade along the sea front on sunday.i took my kids along.the boss of the pub said the kids could stand on the tables outside to watch the parade.after the parade we went inside to the new kids and family bar.what a delight to find such a friendly pub with a family atmosphere.even though the pub was full the boss still had time for my children and even played football outside with them.i rate this pub an 8 for its family atmosphere and friendly staff.

I threw up for the first time here in 1993, when I was 16.
That's the only notable comment I have for this pub, other than to agree with tortoise68's assessment of Les the DJ.

Les the DJ (Weekends) is a must to chat to !! Any song will be played , if you slip him a pint !! I got him to play 'Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now' by The Smiths...surely a first for a DJ !! He also knows a lot about mushroom farms. This guy is TOPS !!

Nice place. Certainly one of the few pubs in the area where you can take the kids along and have a drink and a snack without any hassle. Friendly and polite staff. I'll give it a good 7.
