Visited here for first time in a while and the beer as always was top notch. Landlord was on form this time but that may be because I hadn't been in for a while! Agree with other opinions on some of the locals... Shame really as it is a great pub, great beer and food, just perfect in the Summer otherwise.

Superb range of very well kept ales.if you like your ale and are local you must give it a try.

Visited the pub recently at lunchtime and found the Ham Ploughman's the best I have ever eaten. The beer was also of a high quality with a good selection of ales. The Landlord and Landlady were very pleasant and it is good to visit a pub that still remains a pub.

eddybeer, the 2 pubs in my village are the pits for the same reason. It only takes half a dozen knuckledraggers to turn a pub into a no-go area for anyone with sense. Problem is a lot of landlords are knuckledraggers themselves and more interested in surrounding themselves in like-minded drinking buddies than building a good business.

I know only too well what you mean, jackoblack. My locals are often ruined by just the same.
Why is it that those with the ugliest or most boring opinions are generally those with the loudest voices?

The beer is good however the service and regulars leave something to be desired. Arrived at about half past eight and quite a few 'white van man' types spreading their enlightened opinions before swerving home. As has been said, the landlord is a bit of a churl. The Bell up the road has fewer inbreds but is Greene King, You pays your money, you takes your choice. Nearest reasonable boozer and grub probably Watton.

Excellent beer, excellent pub! Shame about the miserable landlord.

Very hard to fault this pub - friendly with excellent beer and good value food (the jumbo sausage baguette was great and only 4.00). Highly recommended.

Been here a couple times recently, beer is always good without fail and a wide selection, although slightly pricey. Never had the food but have been told although its good, its a bit on the spendy side for pub grub. The pub itself is in good condition, clean toilets, friendly barstaff and a car park.

Nice pub, its a bit of a distance for me. Popped in for a Friday lunchtime as the website said they had a Porter on, a rare drink in Hertfordshire...
Well, it was worth the visit, its the sort of pub I love. Plenty of choice and a barman who was happy to offer an opinion on the drinks more then just the basics you get else where.
The other half was a bit miffed as I has to have a few beers as the choice was so good, the food was fine, only a handful of baps/sandwiches which make sense as its not on a busy route so no point offering loads at lunchtime.
It is the one pub I want to visit more often but find I cannot get there and back for a lunchtime which is a shame.
If you like proper pubs I would recommend The Lordship Arms 100%.
The only draw back was a sign on the door saying no kids, did not ask if this was correct or not but as its a small pub I can see why, pity it could not say no kids after 7pm so at least we can all visit for an early evening meal and help support a quality place.

Ok agree with most of bellow Nice Pub Clean and inviting. Beers as good as it gets never had better. But sorry the landlords a right misery guts!

Unusually for me I have to concur with everyone. This is an excellent pub for beer. Have never had even as much as indifferent pint here. On my last visit I had a pint of Mad Goose and a little way down the road was accosted by two mad geese along the lane. I will avoid any beers with rhino or grizzly bear connotations on any future visits. This is a pub that is also rermakably clean inside. Something pointed out to me by the other half that I never noticed. How do they keep a pub SO clean. A collection of telephones adorns the bar and the landlord knows about proper beer. Only downside is the relatively early finish to bus services to the village.. oh and the afternoon closing - though some may see that as retaining a quaint English custom.

An excellent pub. And as a lover of all beers of a dark colour, it is wonderful to go to a pub and be guaranteed a mild, stout or porter. The salt beef baguettes are not to be missed either!
|
Set back from the lane, the Lordship is an attractive country pub.The interior is open plan, with dull furniture and is slightly over lit but ignore all that and focus on the beer.Fantastic range of real ale,all of which are kept in prime condition.Brewers Gold,TT Landlord and Black Sheep always on ,complemented by a mild and 3 guests. The grapefruit flavoured beer from Elland was terrific, and the Taiphoon from Hop Back was interesting with lemongrass .Despite being quiet, this pub has rightly won many awards for the quailty of the ale.Top marks from me .

Agree this is an excellent pub, very friendly , nice garden and most importantly good beer. They have Crouch Vale Brewers Gold, Landlord and Black Sheep as regulars plus four Guests including a lovely Mild the other Day. Will be back as soon as I can. Carefree

Never been here before but was very impressed. Very friendly & helpful landlord. Good beer, good food, reasonable prices - what more could you ask for. Will definitely be back.

Excellent country pub.Superb beer, good food and very friendly. Well worth seeking out. 10/10

Had a ride out on Monday for a first visit to this pub. Driving so only tried a pint and a half. Both beers Morehouse Black Cat mild and Broken Britain from a Salford brewery in top condition. Four other ales on. Only two people in but friendly. A must if you are a real ale drinker and in the area. Ps You dont need a sat nav. Just follow the road signs and use common sense.
|
A great real ale pub.
|
Nice pub in the middle of nowhere, run by Dracula's brother. Beer's good, loadsa choice; food's good too (traditional English). Not rowdy but, beware, keeps old-fashioned hours (still). Take yer sat-nav.

Very good pub, been Camra pub of the year three times so thats a good sign. Excellent range of ales about 6/7 I think. Also have some ciders and a stout. Friendly staff. Clean and pleasent appearence to the place.
There was only one thing that annoyed me. I went with 3 friends, we are all 22 years old, went in and I looked at the ales as I was buying. The young girl at the bar said hello and then said we do some lagers like fosters and stella. Hello! Not all us youngsters drink lager you know. She seemed to instantly think that only young poeple drink lager. She should be encorouging drinking of good beer! Anyway that's no reason to rate lowly.
A splendid pub.
|
Good range of real ales and nice to see a porter available. More of a drinkers pub to my mind and quite modern in appearence.
|
Excellent friendly village pub. Staff and land lord very welcoming and accomodating. An excellent range of beer. great value sunday lunch with grest homemade food. Drinks areon the expensive side but well worth the money. A great Pub!
|
Alan is the landlord, and keeping decent beer incredibly well is his game. Without fail there is always at least 10 different beers on, all of which are Alan's personal selection. The atmosphere is always welcoming, and the bar food and sunday roast are a must. A definite reccomendation!
|
Brilliant pub, with up to 10 real ales on in good condition. Beer festival in September.
|
