Great Bar, Free Music, Cheap drinks for maida vale, nice Thai restaurant (Bens) well worth going too. The staff keeping the drunks out was a reassuring sight, in past trips to this pub about 5 years ago you would have left after a quick pint at best. I'm happy to report now the Chippenham is on my pubs to drink in list. A++

Thanks Chippenham Best pint of Ale ever.
Not sure what the pub used to belike, but free live music, 2.50 pints of Doombar and Sambrooks ale and a warm welcome.
you will see me at the bar every weekend ;-)

Oh you of little faith!!
Times have changed since alot of you were in The Chipp.
It now has POKER every Thursday
QUIZ every Sunday
MOVIES every Monday
It has also been hosting Psychic Evenings, Opera, the Local Community Choir and other Community groups of which I'm involved in.
It even achieved accreditation from London Tourism last year.
I've had family stay in the rooms and they were very impressed as I will admit they had some reservations due to the reputation The Chipp has.
It even has 3 real ales on at all times now. More than any other pub close by.
Even the outside was renovated last year which has really improved the area not just the hotel.
The only draw back is there is still no live music but it is suppose to be coming soon.
Mango, the landlord, and his wife are really trying to turn the place around. Just look at the new flower baskets.
All of you should pay a visit to see the changes. And if you're not impressed, why not ask to speak to Mango and give him some advice on how you would improve things.
I hope to see you at the bar real soon!!!!!!!

This pub a dive and I see no reason why anyone would want to go there. Not sure what Gatirhi is going on about?! If you are not a chav and you are in the area avoid it at all costs.

"is worm & welcoming, and kids are welcome too...so stop saying shit about it!!!"'

First time in here for years. When I was last here it felt like the sort of place where you'd get you head kicked in. One pint and I was out of there.

On a Sat night there were about 5 people in there, one of whom appeared to be a bouncer, a couple totally off their heads and 2 people smoking in the porchway. Footie on the telly. Quite how it survives I don't know - maybe on the rooms being rented out. It looks an okay pub though, some nice original features, jukebox, decent layout. Surely, they can do something with it. All in all a depressing pint.

A pretty tatty pub, with no real ale on. They did have chilled GKIPA on I decided not to try it. Theres some original Victorian tiling still in place, but thats the only reason to venture in here. I cant see me visiting again.

It is worth a visit just for the tall blonde scouser... =)

Place seems sleepy, 3 or 4 bored backpackers and a Son and Daughter and this was a Saturday night.

Dark and dingy beer was ok. Indeed Joe Strummer played here with the 101ers in the upstairs part

Listen lads this use to be a great pub the old chip it was always very working class and down to earth I use to live nearby on fernhead road and the chip was my local...now someone said it was violent, let me tell you in 1976 I was attacked at the pool table and almost killed with a pool cue but in a most famous fight I managed to nut the guy grab a cue and beat the tar out of him..but later checked into the royal free with a broken orbit bone collar bone and broken left arm so probably some of the same lowlife are still about it but it always had a great pint

i echo the sentiments posted below - ive been to some shitholes in my time and like to think i can take care of myself if anything kicks off but this joint takes the biscuit and safe to say you need to keep your wits about you if you are to walk out alive. Frequented by low life scum, tramps, 10yr old lads riding around the pub on stolen BMX's wearing grubby shell suits blah blah blah - you name it the dregs of society meet in here. Even the taunts of "f***ing ponses" directed at us by some deadbeat whilst at the bar did not deter us from having a drink but boy you could cut the atmosphere with a knife. Managed to skull a pint and escape unscathed but I wont be going back here ever again. This place is a disgrace, complete and utter pony and i would urge you to give this a wide berth if you are in the area especially if you value your life.

Lat time I was in The Chip there was a fight between 2 rival groups of resident builders about football teams. It involved about 10 gentlemen and was only split up by the arrival of 10 police officers.

On the plus side they show complete disregard for the licencing laws regularly staying open until well past midnight.

An absolute shi*hoel of a pub. Please someone buy it out, do it up, and get rid of all the scum who've occupied this place for the past 15 years. We sorely need a decent pub in this area, and its a beautiful building, but pleasem put someone in charge who's got a modicum of taste. Appealing to aussie backpackers, chavs and old fossils from the past is a spiral of diminishing returns. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!

Well I must say that thus far I highly disagree with comments made on this website. I find the Chippenham a friendly enviroment where staff are friendly management is of a high level and the pub itself is kept clean to the upmost possible. It has been under new management for aprroximately seven months now where I have seen many changes and improvements made. I highly recommend visiting this pub and making your own judgements!! The accomodation is comfortable and clean and all rooms are en-suite. All this makes for an enjoyable stay. And yes there is football and rugby and gaa matches shown.

This pub is my local - what a disappointment! It is quite the worst pub I've been to. Lousy beer which is flat and badly kept. No wine. Horrible decor and always empty apart from a few fleabitten dogs. When I went there three people entered the pub to ask me for a cigarette. This pub has nothing to offer except sport on TV. Its dark and dirty. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE could somebody buy this pub and do it up and start a revolution! This is a residential area full of young people who would enjoy a decent pub (nearest one is near Queen's Park).

I dont know what happened to this pub. It was never great but it has descended to the diabolical phase. When there is a decent football game on the telly nunbers grow to double figures and then the death wish decends. On occasions, I have seen sparkling performances by individual barmaids but usually to an empty auditorium. I would not hold my breadth for any recovery.

Two points of interest:

1. The great Joe Strummer, vocalist of The Clash, began his live career here with his first band, the 101ers.

2. It's violent and scary in the Chip. Enter at your peril.
