Considering it's location (town centre, by the train station and a chain pub) it's the best O'Neills I've frequented. Friendly staff, good beer and air-conditioning made my visit to Southend an enjoyable one.

went in here with friends last friday and had a great time, the young man from herefordshire was very professional and looked after us very well. we will return soon.

i love it here! this is one of the best irishish! pubs i have ever been in! the food and ale are both great and they serve the best pint of guinness in the uk!!! well worth a visit! the bands are great on a friday night, the staff are friendly, polite and refreshingly different in comparison to the rest of southend!!!

Not as good as it was during its 1999 - 2002 heyday. Back then, the staff were plentiful and efficient, as opposed to the dimwits behind the bar today, who seem unable to tell who's in line at the bar, and just serve the idiots shouting loudest.
The poor layout of the pub guarantees that if you're standing (as most people at the weekend do), you're guaranteed to be jostled and barged on a constant basis.
'Reflex' is a dull place, and not as good as the live music venue it used to be.

NICE PUB, BEEN GOING THERE SINCE A KID AND I HAD TO SIT OUTSIDE ON THE BENCHES IN THE COLD WHILST MY PARENTS BOUGHT ME COKE AND TATO CRISPS. have always commented on the fake-irishness. I used to go to o'ds for real irish culture but they've turned that into Bakers 3-d bar. Dammit like bakers bar aint big enough already

Nice enough pub, used to spend my lunch hour out on the benches, but could probably do with a few more seats indoors as it sometimes a bit of a scrap to get a seat (especially of an evening). Reflux is just upstairs, which is just plain classy if you like your 80's tunes, but is always heaving of a weekend.

Nice pub, for a chain. Friendly staff, and the option of the 'Reflex' club upstairs. It is better when it's not so full, but then, where isn't? The all-pervasive "Oirishness" of it all peeves me slightly, but it is only slightly (indulge me here, I'm half 'plastic' myself). The 'black stuff' is definitely always worth having in here.
As for 'Reflex', I've been there once, and I have to say I enjoyed it immensely. Lately, my compadres have expressed disenchantment with the place, though. I seem to remember I had fun and was a little unsteady on my feet towards the end, and was then subjected to an hour and a half's wait for a cab in rainy hell (Vic Circus) at two in the morning. Imagine doing THAT sober!

This is a great pub and one of my favourites. The table service is very convenient especially on a weekend night you can just enjoy the quality band without having to struggle to the bar.

Not a bad pub, friendly atmosphere, ok place to watch the footie on the big screen and the service at the table during the match was spot on! Good having reflex above, go out of O'Neills...straight into the club above for some 80's tunes, a laff and sum dancin!

I love this Pub mainly because they have live bands on Saturday nights, but am very, very disappointed that they are no longer going to have live music there, they are going to change Saturday night into a 80's night??? I can't stand 80's music and there is enough so-so clubs in Southend already. Bring back the live music.

Upstairs is open until the wee hours but they charge to get in and from memory it's about a fiver... bit of a rip imho

Would like to comment about the serious hat band who played at o'neills last night and for whatever reason refused to sing HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my daughter who was present with her friends. I can assure the band that myself,my friends,my daughter and her friends will not attend o'neills again whenever that band is playing.

Oirish theme pub with nothing remotely Irish about it apart the decor and occassional 'Diddly-dee' music. One of those pubs that the second 11pm arrives the music is abruptley halted and large bomber-jacketed bouncers hassle you to drink up.
