Reasonable pub. Generally a good clientele, but avoid like the plague on a monday night when it seems there is a regular meet up of cyclists.

I ride a bike myself so wouldn't want to tar every cyclist with the same brush, but these are a particularly objectionable bunch.

So 8 out of 10 for everday apart from monday.

Very good pub off the beat and track a touch but much preferred to the Abbeyville. Good everything, including I'm reliably informed by the missus, the Clarke Kent lookalike behind the jump. Great operation in a rapidly declining area. Cheers Steve n Clarke.

Been coming to this pub for years now as its so much better than those on Clapham high street that tend to be full of people who resemble a sasquatch.

The place also has a great upstairs room for hire, I think called the 'David Nicholls' room after a former patron who drunk here in the 1900's.

Staff always friendly, good ale and beer selection, and the footy to boot, all in a top boozer in the area.

Excellent pub. Good real ales and nice people.

The Coach and Horses is a great British Public House (the kind that has made Albion famous), that serves fantastic food and drink - take note the overated and overblown Grey Goose down the road!

The staff are organised, friendly and knowledgeable about the food/drink they sell.

There's always good music on too!

Well done to the stafff at the Coach and Horses!

As Clapham High Street continues its slow decline, thank goodness for places like this!

I have been using this pub as my local for a couple of years now, ever since I moved to SW4, and it has never been as good as it is now. It is clear to see the new guys really care about the place and they have managed to make the changes the pub needed without poncifying it or rendering it some horrific soul-less 'wine bar'. The food is great, the beer is great, the sport is great and the service is great. I'm not sure what more you could ask for really?

As for the two people below - Nigel, should a pub have and supply schooners on the basis of a request for one perhaps once a year? And dogbear, if you can't afford to drink glasses of wine I hear Wetherspoons pubs do good cheap deals on booze, you should check one out and leave the Coach to those of us who enjoy it in there.

quite right dogbear, i'm normally a big fan of the coach and horses, but recently i went in with my mother (who likes a sherry) and asked for a schooner of harvey's bristol cream, only to be told that they no longer do schooners...and the reason? well, the bar person (i think that's the correct way to address them these days) said they were no longer doing schooners do to lack of demand and they were getting quite dusty on the shelf. well we left...good pint of spitfire though

I am the new owner of the Coach and Horses Clapham and I have to say I am utterly mystified about the below comment.

I remember having the conversation quite well with this person and for them to make up my response is very disappointing.

What I actually said was that we have put on a new wine list, far far greater in quality than the previous wine list in the pub, and as such we want to ensure a high turnover of wine to keep the product fresh and at it's best for drinking. I am sure anyone with half a brain can work out that proportionally speaking, we make the same profit from 6 125 ml glasses of wine than we do 3 250 ml glasses.

Not only is the wine of superb quality now, but it actually represents excellent value for money, as we have made a real effort to source fantastic bottles from all over the world.

I am unsure as to why 'Dogbear' felt the need to invent this conversation but nevertheless, should they wish to come to the pub again I will more than happily give them a glass on me, 125ml if they so desire.

A great pub with a cosy atmosphere that has been taken over by new owners before Christmas. Good selection of ales but I have a major gripe with wines only being sold in large glasses now. When I asked the owner why I wasn't given a choice with glass sizes he said it was to make more money. It would be nice to have a choice and it has put me off going in there.

Went there last night and had a couple of pints of spitfire, they also had London Pride on tap. The ale was good and there is usually a nice selection 1-3 ales on the pump in my time of going there which dates back to April 07. I haven't tried the food yet, or watched sports there but it is certainly one of the nicest pubs in the area. The fires are nice on a cold evening. The only negative is that the tables aren't always cleared up quick enough after people leave.

Great pub which i'm proud to call my local. Fun place to watch sport or sip on an Adnam's outside on the benches.

My only gripe would be that sometimes there are just a few too many Aussie's in the pub.

One of the last real pubs in Clapham. Friendly staff, good service, excellent real ale and a brilliant Sunday roast. Fantastic for watching sport on their 2 big screens.
feedmebeer - 2 Feb 2007 18:15
Service puts most other local pubs in the shade (the fact is, bar staff are mostly Australian and don't feel that politeness/cheeriness are beneath them).
Beer selection OK and food is surprisingly good. Basic pub but a lot of charm.

Best Pub in Clapham by far, Friendly Bar stuff, great range of drinks. Great food and very friendly punters.

Where everybody knows your name... Coach and Horses is a fantastic pub with excellent food and drinks, great sports screens, top atmosphere and very very friendly. Better for Rugby than Football. Our local - no matter where we live! Come and enjoy. O, and say hello to the eighty year old who sits by the door - he's been coming every day for 40 years and has some bonkers stories...
LooseVixens - 24 Jun 2006 23:22
Good to see a constantly-changing guest ale. Yesterday's was Twickenham Original. Friendly staff, never too busy, nicely served beer. Slightly short measures though. The food is good and people were still ordering Sunday lunches after 4pm!
nutterz - 3 Apr 2006 09:23
Great pub. Good food, good atmosphere and great service. What more could you ask for? Sunday roasts are always good. Only limitation is that you need to get there early-ish for whatever you are doing (including Sunday lunch) to ensure that you can get a good spot.

The Coach & Horses is a brilliant pub. Great barstaff, fantastic place to watch the sport though get there very early for the rugby. Alot of beauties turn up as well. Quality. If you go you might see the Stella monkeys playing matchbox and screeching, very funny to watch

probably my favourite pub in London. Great for sport, friendly locals and staff, good food, music and of course yard glasses on birthdays - quality!
Big Dave - 25 Aug 2004 11:13
The Coach is a clapham institution. Brilliant for sport, with a good showing from both sides whether it be England, Aus, SA or NZ each side stakes out a corner. A good selection of beer plus excellent burgers and good smattering of cute babes makes this place a real enjoyment. Other food is top quality too. Good for escaping the underclass too ;)
Nathan Stevenson - 13 Aug 2004 14:21
Always have a good time in there whether to eat, watch sport or relax in the beer garden. Quality food and drink choices are backed up by smiling welcoming staff and quick service.
Robbie & Beate - 2 Feb 2004 13:18
good pub. Probably the only pub left in Clapham. Old men drinking real ale and babes eating good food at good prices. Lively for sport and on Friday and Sat nights with the Sand bar crowd. Good straightforward Live music Thursdays. 8/10

My local, and a really decent pub. Friendly landlord and bar staff, a good range of well kept beers, and a good range of food as well. Good sized portions for the fat boys, and some great nibbles along the lines of Devils on horseback etc for the dieters out there.
D Flack - 29 Jul 2003 10:45
This pub has been refurbished in the last couple of years, but has kept a traditional feel. The food is top level pub grub and It has an elecric atmosphere for big sports events and Sunday lunches. The Clientele ranges from old men in the corner to pretty girls. This is definitely a pub and not a bar.
