Found this pub to be very agreeable on an evening visit on Friday of Whitson BH.
Booked a table in advance and when we were late arriving the first concern of landlady was for our welfare not our lateness.
Happy to have child and dog in bar...good Harvey's Best and Mild, Thatchers Gold cider.
Perused menu, and when chatting to chef he offered fresh cod not chips...the fish was delicious.
Good chat was had with the locals, regarding other local pubs, local history, dogs in pubs. All in all a lovely evening, wish the patrons all the best in keeping up a "proper" local pub- seemingly a rare commodity these days.

New Landlord from last May. Now does food. Well cooked and reasonably priced. The steak and kidney pudding highly recommended.
It's still a Harveys tied house so the beer is Cask Marque approved and is always good. Usually two beers on handpump, occasionally three.

At dogtrain: I think you have the wrong Kings Head. There is another one about 2 miles away that is not noted for the quality of its beers! This Kings Head, South Road, has a landlord that is fanatical about his beer. Drank in the pub for years and never had a bad pint.

This pub, set in a residential area was the local CAMRA pub of the year for 2011. It is clearly a locals pub and the customers were all male. Some were gathered in the small bar area, whilst others were playing pool. In addition, there is a tiny side room next to the pool table and another larger room beyond the bar. A large garden contained Benson, the pub alsatian. We sat with Benson and bowed to his urges for a game of catch! There is also a covered patio in the garden with tables too. Beers on were all Harveys - Sussex Best Bitter, Sussex Dark Mild & South Down Harvest. Slightly disappointing that there were no guests though.

Nice friendly local beer not up to standard.

I use this pub every now and then. Best pint of Harvey's in the area. Usually have several Harvey's beers on hand pump at any one time. Friendly regulars, excellent bar staff. No food. They are starting to do the occasional beer festival. The last one was excellent! Highly recommended local pub.

Out for a walk with the wife - passed this place and thought we would call in. Just after 3pm on Good Friday - lights on, bar busy & just about to order when the landlord (?fella in shorts & flip flops?) says 'we close a 3pm'. The look on my face as I scanned the bar looking at all his 'in the know' regulars must have said a lot - he then says 'but we open again at 4:30' I assume he wasn't lying, that they weren't all there for a lock-in and this pub really does close at 3pm on a bank holiday afternoon. I thought those archaic hours disappeared years ago though obviously not in this backwater - Bizarre!

I have been using the pub for 12 years now. Fantactic beer, the people who come in are extreamly friendly (great local) and the people who run it are brilliant. NIce to feel welcomed.

The best pub in Hailsham, definitely worth the walk down South Road. Very well kept Harvey's beers. A friendly and traditional boozer. They don't do meals and they are not open at lunchtimes Mondays to Thursdays. Have a Darts Team and Pool Table.
