The Blue Pig is a half-timbered building just on the edge of the town centre. It has a single bar serving 3 different rooms, that still maintain a bit of character. The pub has a rough and ready feel to it. But I don't regard that as a bad thing. Ales were Wychwood Hobgoblin & Hobgoblin Gold, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Caledonian Deuchars IPA & Oldershaw Heavenly Gold. Cider was Old Rosie. Worth a visit, as part of a Grantham crawl.

Stumbled across this whilst exploring an area of Grantham I never knew existed. Pub mentioned by name in the tourist blurb in front of the nearby large church. Was everything we wanted. Still quaint. Honest food. Nothing pretentious. Young lady behind the bar most pleasant and other clientele equally well behaved. Are two bars & think we were in what you would call the back bar (nearest the church). Only saw 1 pump with Hobgoblin but may have been more in other bar. Good pint though. TV on but no sound so could still talk. Get feeling they wo ld've turned up had you asked. A pleasant little surprise this establishment. Worth a visit

I think "could do better" (Bart above) is just about right. In the back doubles of Oxford or off Belgrave Square in London this would be a cult destination. It's a beautiful building, reeks of history, quaint inside (though the doors are dodgy for anybody who is 6'+) and all in all Ye Olde Worlde English pub. But the feeling I got was nobody really cared. It was flat, the service offhand and the atmosphere dreary. Maybe that's what the punters want.

Don't know what it's like these days but I hope it's the same as a few years back when I had one of the largest and most delicious meals ever at this place. Good service too. Not sure if that would have extended to cutting a wider doorway for me to squeeze out through afterwards, however.
Really good and recommended.

First visit this week. Beer I had was in good condition and the blackened cajun chicked was delicous and good value. Great looking old pub
|
Again this pub could do better, a recent visit found one of the beers had turned to vinegar. This seems to be a regular occurance at this pub. If you visit, drink the cheddar valley cider.

Great Cask Ales, Lovely Food on Sunday evening. Proper Olde Worlde Pub and open on Sunday evening for food till 9pm which apprears to be very rare for the surrounding area!

I will start with my score for the Blue Pig which is 10/10 because I cannot fault it.
For me, it is a perfect pub; excellent beer, excellent food and excellent ambiance. Unspoilt by progress, it retains a delightful olde worlde charm and long may it stay that way. There were six real ales available when we visited. As I was driving I could not sample all of them but I can say that the Timothy Taylor Landlord, and the Ahtanum Gold from the local micro Oldershaw Brewery were both spot on and served by a very attractive young lady. Foodwise, the Blue Pig has a comprehensive menu of mainly good honest English dishes, which are excellent value and were freshly cooked and the chips were real.
The Blue Pig will definitely be on my itinerary on my next visit to the Grantham area, and it is definitely worth a detour off the A1

Good selection of hand pull beers (six or more) and good consistency in quality. Good pub grub also. Semmingly unaffected by trends in interior design for the past 300 years. It can get a little crowded and smokey but come the smoking ban it'll be just about perfect. This and the Nobody Inn are just about the best places in Grantham for quality ale.

best pub in grantham, goos staff, good pint, and not the type of place the chavs that infest grantham will go. always a stopping point if u want a good pint, although it is stuck in the 16th century
|
Quite small and compact, but very good food. A good selection of gamblers for the moth boys.

I appologise profusely, those last comments were for the Beehive in Grantham! We ate in this pub and I can say it was great.Good food, friendly service and a character pub

Old sixteenth century inn - plenty of atmosphere and real ale. Not to be missed if you're in Grantham, and well worth eating in as they do god cheap food.
|
Make this a stopping point. Six ales on handpump. A 16th century in and good food. What more could you want?
