Great pub. Bit less busy and noisy than other places, and if you can deal with the occasionally scary clientele, it's good for a late drink. The only 'puzzle' to me is what kinds of bars Jez likes going to...

Seems to me the new folk at the Puzzle don't want to compete with the masses of other pubs in Balham. It always looks empty these days and the outdoor section is tatty and falling apart...

As a resident of Balham for 8 years l would like to say that the Puzzle was a gbreat place. Now , under the new manager it seems that locals like me are not welcome anymore as he wants a new type of customer. This is going on a lot in South London , with pubs and bars looking for a "higher class of customers" and leavinglong standing locals out in the cold.

Went there on Saturday night for the first time in about 2 years. It has a 1am license on Saturdays and had (reasonably) friendly door and bar staff. Good place for a late pint.

I moved into Balham about a month ago. I tried a few pubs in the area but the Puzzle was the one I enjoyed the most. It certainly wasnt dirty. Great food, good wines, I love going there.

Rather disappointing evening: flat beer, surly bar staff and a somewhat grubby pub. Wont be going again.
