Decent = kind or obliging; moderate or respectable. This place must be exceptional¡

Pretty decent; decent rather than exceptional.
No discernible change from last visit apart from the ale (Purity UBU) being blander and with less taste.
Fair range of beers, good food and nice barmaids.... but....no heating and loud music. If they can sort out the last two I would be delighted to return.
Friendly enough and quiet enough on a wet Saturday evening good selection of beers.
Would pretty much concur with the last reviewer - it's okay rather than good. Ale was drinkable not as pub like as it could be but it's handy for Farringdon station and has a tad more atmosphere than the Wetherspoons.

Came here for a late PM drink with some colleagues. Seems a nice enough Pub, more of the "Traditional" style with a good selection of Larger and a couple of craft beers.
I didn't try the food but what I saw looked nice.
Staff were very friendly.
I would not travel very far to visit again as its nothing "Really" special but it is right outside Farringdon station so convenient if your meeting someone.
I would visit again if I was in the area.

A good gastropub with a brilliant breakfadt. A decent number ales on tap and the staff were friebdly and helpful
great place to go for a beer, highly reccomended. people lovely and atmosphere great.
didnt eat there but high marks on all other aspects
Great central London boozer. Good selection of bitters, lagers and ciders with some fairly niche brands, especially the bitter. usually packed after work but quite relaxed on a weekend with surprisingly good food on a Sunday. Staff are pretty surly but then it's a central London pub. Well worth a visit if in the area.
Great looking pub, tasty food, great drinks selection but terrible staff. The current manager is rude and doesn't seem to care about you and the staff are the same.
Decent choice of ales and continental beers. Not my cup of tea this pub but welcoming.
8 beers available yesterday at about 3.45 a pint. An old fashioned pub that has either been well looked after or recently done up. Lunchtime and early evening food available at what looked to be reasonably prices. Beer quality and service were both good.
Didn't realise this place has an upstairs. Neither does anyone else, if the fact that my mate and I had the top level to ourselves for almost two-and-a-half hours on a Thursday evening, despite being busy downstairs. Not the cheapest place to drink, but was pleased to find Wandle on tap. Convenient for the station too, if you have to dash off afterwards.
great to see Thornbridge ales in another london pub, seems to have had a refurb - which everyone must be paying for in the rather expensive prices - even for this area
photo needs updating as this is no longer current. thursday 6pm and the place was busy outside but not many in. staff would rather be doing something else is the feeling i got, waited a couple of minutes before getting a text from mate to say come to other pub. cant comment on beer quality as didnt get one in the end.

I don't generally bother with reviews but the absolutely appalling service at this bar made me register just so I could post about it. The Castle Bar could be great, it is a good location, with good interior and good music, but the bar staff seriously lets it down. I went there recently with a mate, was studiously ignored by 2 barmen, who were dancing about and having a great time, while the other server got on with trying to serve a heaving crowd of people on a typical Friday night in Farringdon. When we complained, they called the manager who refused to acknowledge any complaint about her staff. We left and went to the bar next doors where we got served promptly, only for the barman from The Castle to storm in and down 3 shots of Sambuca! When I mentioned this to the manager, again she wouldn't believe that her staff could do anything wrong. While I was waiting at the bar in The Castle a stag party of 15 people left in a huff and everyone was complaining - bad management and incompetent bar staff is a recipe for disaster.

Walked past this place many times but never been in until last week. Found on entering that it was dark, had loud music and seemed to have rather more studenty types than one would expect in this part of town. Ever the soldier I advanced to the bar only to find that whatever bar staff were on duty had found other things to do rather than serve the increasing number of waiting customers. After 5 minutes I actually gave up and left.
Awful
a nice vibe in this pub, seemed a bit studenty, but has a bit of character
one of the few pubs in the area (other than the Wetherspoons) that was doing food on a Saturday afternoon - shame though that the ribs were dried up and virtually inedible). Upstairs bar was closed - no sign to say why. Beer was ok. Wouldn't go again.
Normally packed if I come past on a Friday evening. Was here today around lunchtime with 20 minutes to kill so popped in. One of the chain of Mitchell & Butler pubs, foreign beer such as Sierra Nevada, Leffe, Fruli, Apple Bocq, Star etc. Real ales were Pride and GK IPA. Very dark inside, high ceilings. Sign for an upstairs bar.
OK but nothing special.
This is agreat pub- definitely a good for for late drinking but I also have to agree that the staff there are NOT friendly and i found that the girls behind the bar were literally only serving blokes. I stood for about 10 mins waiting and watching whilst guys came and went. in the end i had to get a male friend to buy the drinks!
agree with the comment about it being dark, toilets are shocking and the staff I have to say aren't exactly the most efficient or friendly. Far better pubs in Farringdon although it is near the tube and it's better than spoons!
Been there twice now on a Sunday. Found the staff to be superb, the music excellent, the crowd a nice mix of all sorts, and the food to be absolutely out of this world.
Can't find a single reason to dislike the place at all, and will definitely be going back.
Had a cracking night there last night...A few lovely pints of Addlestones and a serious Burger...In heaven. Staff were really nice too..Has a very "bohemian" feel to it which was refreshing for the area. Toilets obviously brand spanking new ( smell of fresh paint gave it away )
Nice place...I'll be back
Visited briefly before a club night at Turnmills. Seemed friendly and the beer was good, if nitrogen-fuelled (boo, hiss!).
Upstairs was exceptionally hot and I'm glad that I visited post-smoking ban.
I'd go again, especially if was closer to home.
interesting decor, decent food. Reasonably priced and well prepared. Good for a stop off for lunch or after work beer.
dutty dull and dark.. not very impressed by it.. staff not very efficent or friendly either.. shame for farringdon.
Went here for a few ciders before going for a meal. Very enjoyable and a great selection of the appley stuff.
Here on Friday, early evening, atmosphere good, lots of people spilled out onto the street outside, sat indoors and enjoyed the beers. Cracking pint or three of Leffe.
pleasant pub - suprisingly crowded for a mid afternoon week day, only 2 ales but draught imported lagers make up for this, rather smokey
Went there on a Friday night recently, and it's a great pre-club pub that tbh just starts the night for Turnmills/Fabric goers.
Can get very packed, but the people in there seemed decent enough and the drink prices are about what you expect for a London Pub. Only draft cider was the cloudy stuff which wasn't great. Staff quickly served us despite the place rammed, and the dj was ok as well - nothing to cheesy and get's you in the mood for the night out.
On Friday/Saturday nights, strictly a pre-club pub.
would be a good starter to farringdon.. within minutes of fabric and turnmills.. looks nice from the outside.. get inside and its a world of peasant city-ites bar staff rude.. never around.. a dark atomsphere and vintage styled decor.. gone wrong.. I would personally rather spend my time in wetherspoons around the corner..at least they are a little more churpy churp!
I like this pub. No particular reason. Gets a good mixed clientele. Has a long interesting history. Like the dark interior. Near to Farringdon. Upstairs had comfy sofa's and a pool table - good place to chill out, but often reserved for private party's.
Good place to start a pub crawl in the area.
Worth a trip.
What's happened to this place? On a recent Friday night it had been taken over by meat-market City lager-swillers. So much for the lack of pretention. Service has gone numb in the face of being packed out with some very ugly well-dressed customers. Great selection of ale, but so what?
Very nice boozer. Good beer, helpful staff, chilled out clientele. Agree totally with previous poster- no prentence with a low idiot quota.
Good pre-Fabric haunt. I'll be back.

Came here yesterday for the first time and was fairly impressed no pretence to the place unlike certain other pubs/bars in the area

Great boozer, best beer selection around. Nice knowledgable bar staff. Burgers are fantasic (try the one with dolcelatte). Music is good. Great painting on the wall of George IV pawning his watch which he apparently did in a pub on this site, granting the premises a pawnbrokers licence in perpetuity which it still holds and advertises with the traditional pawnbrokers emblem of three balls.

Oh dear. Not what one would expect in this area?? Viewing the self-centered attitudes of sniffy patrons is more likely to put me off than actual comments about the place itself.
Personally, I've never had a bad experience here. Nice place to relax with a beer. Although, as I say, some patrons can make you wish you had a mute button for them.
Yet again it fails to impress - waited over 30 min for a lunch order, which arrived with no apology and wrong! Compensation was 2 softdrinks - NOT really what one would expect in this area.
Great range of wonderful beers, food is average. Pretty much a sister pub to the Crown Tavern on Clerkenwell Green.
A bit of a pre-club venue over the weekend, so you will see the odd wide-eyed youf getting ready to hit Turnmills or Fabric. This might not be your scene so be warned.
In summary if you like your fancy Belgian/German/Czech beers and a modern but nonetheless pubby atmosphere this is for you. If you want a cheap Carling and a TV then please go elsewhere. You know who you are.

Not a bad pub - suffers from sufficient seating at lunchtime. Good burgers, pity about the under cooked chips!
Bit too trendy for its own good
Went there on a wet and very quiet Saturady afternoon...nice old style pub with a reasonable range of beers, including some speciality ones (e.g. Hoegaarden). Food was good and staff were friendly. In the evenings they sometimes have DJs playing dance/alternative music and the clientele is noticeably trendier.
