This used to be a tolerable pub when it was branded as a Hogshead, but it seemed to be yet another souless chain establishment when I visited over the New Year. Now a Slug and Lettuce the place had a distinct lack of atmosphere and the only thing I could find of worth to say about it was that it wasn't as expensive as I'd been expecting. Ringwood Best and Bombadier on offer; neither of which were on good form.

Certainly lost a bit in the way of atmosphere when transferring to S&L but, although now predominantly a food pub, it has given the staff more purpose and the surroundings a much worthier feel now it has been scrubbed up. Still maintains a polite weekend evening audience and now attracts a much better clientele, still with amusements and larger range of beers now. A good move all in all.

Not the best pub in town. Not a place for ale drinkers or those who appreciate quality.

Now called The Slug and Lettuce. This pub has a kind of 'airport hotel bar' feel to it. Theres lots of glass and coloured lighting. But a good range of beers, wines and bitters. Service is good too. As an example, my wife ordered one of the three Rose wines, but didn't like it. When I returned it to the bar to buy a replacement, the barman gave me the more expensive Rose with no extra cost, despite my offering to pay for it. - very impressed.

Used to be a good pub, where a decent pint of ale could be enjoyed. You are ok if you like lager but all the ales that made Hogs Heads so popular are now gone. I dont bother with it anymore, even when pub crawling!

Fairly quiet when I went there on a Sunday evening, it's a pretty basic pub, not the cleanest, and the only outstanding fact to report was the extortionate price of the drinks.

dont bother unless your 16......barn of a place with nasty rough yoofs inside!!! heaps of barstaff when we visited early one sat night all not doing very much as said tables full of dirty glasses overflowing ashtrays & rubbish. lager was also poured so badly not a bubble to be seen yuk!!!

It has become very tatty which is in keeping with the other Hogshead pubs in the area, The Parkstone and the Hop and Kilderkin. No longer deserving of its Cask Marque accreditation as the two remaining ales are poorly kept at the best of time. Bit of a rough crowd in there as well. The tables that are left are frequently covered with empty glasses and full ashtrays.Don't know why Hogsgead have allowed their pubs to fall into such a state of disrepair.
