Excellent pub in a slightly out of the way spot. We visited after a trip to the nearby go-karting track, and on a sunny day the location is hard to beat - right on the river with views of The O2, Docklands and The Thames Barrier.
Slightly let down by the bog standard beer selection, the food more than made up for it. A wide range of pub classics with a few regional dishes thrown in, I opted for the cheese ploughmans which was not only huge but also incredible value at £6.95.
I don't visit Charlton very often, but this place is worth coming back for. I notice from their listings posters that they do live music and DJs so maybe for one of those nights.
Overall, would highly recommend.

A truly exceptional Sunday roast and a right hidden gem of a pub. I'd give my right arm to learn how they get their roast potatoes so crispy. Wonderful food that won't put a dent in the wallet, some of the friendliest staff you could hope for, and a lovely, cosy ambience. I'm glad it's not the easiest to find as I think I'd find it hard to share this place if it was universally known!

Food is cheap £5 - £7.50 for pub grub

Quirky pub with boat equipment on walls but also has a disco corner and chandeliers. Doom bar and london pride £3.70 on pump. Nice comfy sofa to sit on. 7/10

Cycled past this pub quite a few times and noticed it was always busy outside. Was out for a walk recently and decided to venture in...am glad I did. A real gem. Exceptionally clean, very cosy and staff very friendly. Will definitely be back!

Had two real ales and plenty of customers. For somewhere that seems in the middle of no-where its doing pretty damm good. One niggle - there did seem to be a fair bit of shop talk from bar manager and staff that perhaps could be done prior to opening or at the back somewhere - for a Sunday I found listening to their checks on this and that, briefings to the barman and kitchen staff etc less than relaxing.

Love this pub, its great on a sunday afternoon sitting in the sun which it basks in all afternoon.
The locals and staff are really friendly, kids play happily outside whilst parents have a cheeky beer, in the summer they sometimes bring the entertainment outside to the beer garden overlooking the river.
On my last visit, a pearly king and queen turned up in their pearly taxi and played the spoons for a while.
Its a real gem and one of those pubs where you go for one and leave at last orders

This place seems a pleasant enough pub, comfortable, lots of character and a great location. However, a pub with no real beer is lacking something and certainly missing out on custom.

great food, decent beers/lagers and cider and good 'local' feel to the place.and you cant beat sitting outside in the sun near the river. enough said !

Are these people going to the same pub ???
Yeah, some decent (industrial) river views, and if the sound of jets taking off from City airport is your cup of tea then great. My experiences, and i've been there 3 times now, so its not just a bad day- Flat Stella, you know where there's no head and the bubbles rush up the outside of the glass, and food that was too embarassing that I had to apologise to my Swedish friend when she received it. A Hot Sausage sandwich (advertised WITH Salad) that appeared as 2 thick white doorstops of bread with a few bits of fatty ALdi/Walls sausages inside(at least the sausages were hot) - oh and by the way, no salad. It was a disgrace. Dont go there! - if you do ,I would suggest you take your own food and drink and sit outside.

me and a couple of friends go in the summer sunday afternoons, its a great little pub, nice staff and friendly customers, lovely to look out over the thames and watch the planes taking off from city airport, and all the goings on of the river.Live music, singing and dancing after a few!! great times had by all.

I bloody love this pub. Living in Charlton, its my favourite Charlton pub and I've drunk in most of them. There is always a friendly welcome from both the locals and the staff and thankfully they certainly know how to run a pub! In fact its getting better all the time.
With regret we tend to use it more in the summer (fairweather friends) as we enjoy being able to sit outside (smoke) and watch the water traffic go up and down. Sunday afternooons there is always a party atmosphere down there. Sometimes in the summer they set the entertainer up outside and when the sun is out, its a great way to spend an afternoon with friends. Good roasties on the bar too.
Anyway ive blathered on too much, but its a real hidden gem in South London.

Ate in this pub a few years ago and the portions were massive!! A great steak, chips&salad as big as what you'd eat at home-lovely. Best of all it was very very cheap. The staff are friendly, a family run pub I believe, nice people. Only been on a weeknight but I should imagine weekends are good. Yeah they got no real ales but so what, theres plenty of places selling real ales, whatever it lacks here, it makes up in other ways. I hear someone say the area is not so appealing on the eye, well hey thats not the pubs fault.

Fantastic riverside pub, well worth a stop off during the summer months.8/10

I love this pub - it is one of the few I have found in South East London that is a real old fashioned pub - with a bunch of friendly enough locals and a wonderful landlord who result in giving this pub one of the nicest atmospheres around. It is not glitzy at all - but it is spotlessly clean, with fantastic pub food (the most wonderfull pies!) and in the summer you can sit out on the patio overlooking the river - they even put on entertainment. It is a lovely little pub and I can't sing it's praises enough. It's a shame there aren't more like it around as they really know how to take care of their customers

Could possibly hold the Guinness World Record for packaged snacks on offer. The wall by the bar is essentially a mural of heavily salted delights...which is good, as NO PUB IN WOOLWICH OFFERS FOOD ON A SUNDAY. (if I'm wrong, I'd love to know where) I decided to do the Green Chain Walk one Sunday, and attempt to have lunch around Woolwich. I stopped in every pub between Woolwich town centre and here, and ended up having to have a brunch of Scampi Fries and crisps here. It has done nothing to erase my view of Woolwich as a backwater dump.
I've found that riverside pubs are only as beautiful as their surroundings. Riverside pubs around Putney are airy & beautiful. Around the concrete eyesore of the South Bank you have the eyesore of The Founders Arms. Near the chav-y looking townhouses of Roterhithe you have the chav-y looking Spice Island. Then down around the grand buildings of the Old Naval College in Greenwich you have the grand Trafalgar Tavern.
.....this pub is down an industrial laneway, in an area 60 years past its prime, with views of Silvertown and North Greenwich. Should give you an idea of its appearance. You get the feeling the owners only hold it in the desperate hope that one day the area might become attractive, and then it can be converted into some gastrobistrotequepub. In the meantime, they're doing nothing to the place but opening it, and it looks like that's been the plan since the early 70's.

Try the hot beef sandwiches - Sanfrantastic!!!!

The Anchor & Hope is a bit off the beaten track but worth the extra effort to pay a visit, especially given the lack of decent pubs in the area. The riverside location is its strongest selling point and there is a reasonable sized patio with benches and purpose built BBQ right next to the river where you can sit and watch the boats go by. The interior is L shaped and divided into 2 areas, the partly mock Tudor Doubles bar and through an arch in what was probably an old pool room, a more luxurious sofa lounge. As you would expect, the pub is nautically themed with boat pictures, model ships, maps of the Thames and bridge equipment (wheels, telegraphs etc) and even the pillars look like old ship masts. There is a big screen TV, a couple of fruitys, and either a quiz machine or cash machine (couldnt quite see), and somewhat novel in todays day and age, a pay phone. The biggest disappointment is the beers - no Real Ales, although there are 2 hand-pumps, and just mainstream Lagers / Cider. To somewhat offset this, you can only marvel at the impressive display of snacks, nuts, crisps, olives etc. As the pub is only known to locals and more adventurous Charlton fans, it doesnt get as packed as some of the other pubs in the area on match day. This is probably the only pub in the area worth making a specific effort to visit and would make a decent summer evening out but would be so much better if it offered some decent beers.

I love this place, i often go and get rat arsed. You can normally find me belting out a old classic on the karaoke on a sunday afternoon.

Beautiful river views from the plentiful tables across the road - always a good summer sunset spot, with Dome and Docklands twinkling away to the west and the shining lights of the Barrier to the east. Always friendly barstaff. Every time I've been there, they seem to be having a locals' knees-up and the party atmosphere is contagious. They have a barbecue on the river terrace too although I've never been there when it's been on. Lasting memories are: getting slowly drunk while looking out over the Dickensian Thames and hearing a note-perfect rendition of I'm Every Woman!

Charlton's best-kept secret - a quiet little riverside hideaway. Lots of workers from the industrial estates and Sainsburys depot drink here - and you won't be disturbed by braying idiots here, they're too scared to come to Charlton. Lovely place to go and drink on a summer's evening. Good staff too. Tends to shut on bank holidays, mind - give them a call if you're planning a visit!

Landlord/lady obviously put great deal of work into friendly pub that could be intimidating next to docks. Beer very cheap, ideal place if watching Charlton Ath- slightly out of the way. food is excellent massive servings and very cheap. Next to Thames between Dome and Thames barrier so if you like your modern arcitecture come on down.

Riverside pub somewhat inconveniently located by an Industrial Estate. Looked quite nice when we drove past it.
