Called for luncheon this day with the Lady Wife. Pre-luncheon tincture - a little heavy on the angostura (one would suppose that the foreign johnnie behind the bar had never been asked for a pink gin before !?!?) The fried fish adorned with french fried potatoes was not, however, without merit. Poor selection of port and no madeira on offer. Would call again on the strength of the victuals. I remember, when I was serving in India, when a bar wallah would have been horse whipped if he had been over generous with the bitters....Still we had an Empire in those days.

I have used this pub for many a year, food has improved over recent years but beer not that good, ideal for a meal out.

This place is all about food. my aged mother likes it ! Which probably means that it is more of a Joe Lyons than a pub.

Went here on 2nd February (evening) and was rather disappointed to see that it is now a Beefeater (place was packed). The food was ok but nothing special, which is a real shame as it used to do very good food and a great variety. Won't be visiting again!

I feel some people have been unkind here, its a lovely old pub, ok beefeaters are not great, but this has got to be there best! If you want a lousy shit hole of a pub try the Crown down the road in Shirley! Atleast the people drinking in Coombe Lodge apear to work!

Went there for Sunday lunch, we booked a table in advance, though busy the place was not full and nobody seemed to have a problem getting a table.
The food was good but not great and the portion's large, I got a lot of meat but not much veg. The staff were very accomidating as one of our party asked for something that was on the bar menu when we were in the restaurant.
I agree with the previous poster - great for a quick pint or a meal but I wouldn't bother for a night out.

Nice for a stop to eat and a drink on a walk on a Sunday afternoon. Always busy and is very hard to get seated. But this gives the place a bit of atmosphere which other large pubs don't have. However wouldn't come here for a night out. Only a quick pint.

Johnbilly's ADVERT for this pseudo-pub is the only review he's ever written, so his judgement of this place is either based on very limited experience, or he can't be bothered to write any more. Coombe Lodge is an old ladies' favourite lunching place - beware the hazards of walking sticks wobbling, and zimmer frames shuffling erratically in front of you as you make for the bar. They like it presumambly because of the "old manor house" ambience.
The food is standard grub: Wetherspoons also do it well more cheaply.
The beer is ok, but not worth making the journey for. You'd likely have to drive here and forego carousing in any case.
All that aside, the lovely conservatory is a pleasant place for an autumnal ale, and perhaps a low-fat starter while you try to impress your gran and persuade her into changing her will...

Another wretched Out and Out. Caters for the easily pleased and those residents of the bolted-on travelodge who are too lazy to get the tram into town.

This is one of the GREATS of the Croydon area. If your looking for a pub/restaurant without the hassle of teenage angst then this is it. Superb food which is quality value, great beer on tap and the best part of all is the well trained, friendly staff. Coombe Lodge is an old manor house set within some beautiful grounds. I fully recommend Coombe for a GREAT night or day out. An extra special praise goes to Mark and Andrew who are always there to cater for your every need.
